Hey everyone.
How are you guys? So, I decided to register and explain some things (and also thank you guys for the feedback) on our Eurovision entry. I'm the composer and producer for Pam's 'Easy To Belive' and 'Try' as well, actually. I know this is old news by now, but I didn't want to comment on anything before the national contest was a wrap for obvious reasons.
Me and Pam met during the 2018's Eurovision finals (which as you all know, was here in Lisbon) and we just clicked, both musically and personally. I was very impressed with her hunger so I played her some of my beats and said "If you have any idea, just send it to me". I didn't give it much thought, but two days after she went back to Prague, she called me like "when's your studio ready? I'll going to Lisbon to record with you". She just bit the bullet and came here. On those first 10 days or so we spent making some music, we made 'Easy To Believe', 'Try', and another record that's not out yet. ETB was actually a bit different: longer, less "structured".
People say that ETB sounds like everything: the 70's, 80's, 90's and now, the early 00's. To Pam, it's Funk. To some it's EDM. To me, it's just our music. We weren't really thinking about "Oh, we gotta make one Eurovision-sounding record" or anything like that, although I can 100% get why it gave that idea. When we were trying to find Pam's sound, we tried a bunch of things, and I tried to understand what she grew up on, and with my very limited musical ability (I'm much more of a "texture", "vibe" and "color" producer than a decent musician) that's what we came up with. Basically what I'm trying to say is that we didn't put ourselves in a box.
So! Why didn't we submit 'Try' or any of our other records (we made about 10 by the time submission was up)? I have no idea. It just happened very organically. We wanted 'Try' to be out, so in my mind at least, I couldn't even consider that record. But I can tell you that the love that 'Try' got (including some here) got me aware that pushing musical boundaries on ESC is not only important, but desired. There's always a few things that we must conform with, but I'll open my mind up. Thank you all for that.
Pam said she wanted to give it another go next year, and hopefully we'll do it together. I've been working on this industry for a while, but I've never seen someone work so incredibly hard. I respect her hustle and dedication. Thank you guys for all the love and constructive criticism. I usually don't reply to anyone, nor care about comments, but I can see some pretty valid points here.
Please continue to support her. Oh, and if you have any questions, I'll hang around for a few days. One.
