Totally disagree with you, the song and the singer were too good for this contest.

There's nothing that is "too good" for the contest. ESC is a music contest, not a contest only for "cheap" pop. Don't underestimate it.

Breaking News!

Broadcaster SIGMA TV announced that they are willing to support financially CyBC to have a decent and proper representation in Eurovision 2014. Deputy Chief of SIGMA, Mr Dimitris Tsokaris revealed the information.

“We are willing to produce the national selection and the necessary expenses for the song and the artist like MAD TV did for Greece last year… it’s never too late for CyBC to change their minds, there’ still time” Mr Tsokaris concluded.

Well it worked for Greece last year so I guess it could work for Cyprus aswell?

However, the fee would still be payed by CyBC though... not sure what's "in it" for these other channels to help out.

Wow, great and positive news. Sigma TV is the most up-to-date and successful TV channel over here, and they have very good relations with many artists, because of very good public relations system (something that CyBC lacks IMO). This will mean both Cyprus back to the contest and more promising situation for a good entry

Well Damn...spamming is actually quite fun. My apologies to all those folks I banned for that in the past.

Seriously though, I'm very pessimistic on this one. Didn't we have a similar situation with Bosnia this year where some other channel offered their help? I don't recall all the details but I don't wanna get my hopes up just so they can get crushed again.

I think Bosnian broadcaster last year didn't accept the offer of that channel because it was Bosnian-Serb or something? I don't know if I remember well, they said it might have had a "propagandistic approach" or something like this, without being sure about it. And it was offered some time before the official deadline, so it was already too late. This of course shouldn't be compared with this case, since nobody has officially confirmed participation yet, the confirmations start in November if I recall well.

I can't understand why another channel would fund its competitor for ESC. There has to be a catch for the channel if its too accept the money to pay for the contest?

I know right? Certainly they're not doing this out of pure good-will...

Nothing is ever free in life. They're most probably planning to take over the competition from the other channel. A "we can do it better than you" kind of thing.

Or maybe they have money and they are able to organize things CyBC can't? And this won't be in their expense because they'll get money because of the viewing numbers being increased?

But CyBC is the only Cypriot EBU member, ESC shows would have to be broadcast on their channels. There is no way that just the advertisement money this other channel could possibly earn would cover all the costs.

But all the credits will go to Sigma TV for the organizing of the NF, and Sigma TV has gossip tv programs and this kind of stuff, and they will earn viewing numbers from this case. It would be better for them than nothing IMO.
