So much hate :( He was great! And deserved qualification way more over several overrated songs.

Well it should have been in the final but it had nothing special from the other hand xthink

I liked Axel and I was pretty sure he would qualify by shear vocal force, but he kind of failed the moment and I think he knows it as well. As I said earlier, it reminded me of Swedish Lucia day where some talented male local wannabe opera singer sings Adams julsång. It is always a huge success. :) Axel can come back next year with a better song (I mean text).

great voice, but the song are a little patetic and obvious more indicated to junior eurovision

It's not because your song is about your own mother that it's immediately a childish song...

I feel sorry for Axel as he seems a sweet man but the song certainly didn't have the same effect as it did in his National Final. Without his crying Mother and whoever the other man was there with her weeping, it lost a lot of it's impact. Then there is also the pressing issue of Axel's voice which sounded coarse and strained throughout. I was actually nervous for him. I was expecting Belgium to take a slot in the final but i'm kinda glad the stronger performances went through instead.

Give me your strength, oh mother
Give me your care
mother
You are my guiding light

For some reason I have always heard it as ''Mother, you are my dad''
And I noticed it after the semi when I checked lyrics.

So I'm going to give my very recent opinion on the songs of the 1st semi-final since I've discovered them live yesterday.

Belgium... Well, to me that was one of the weakest songs of this lineup, like really. In the end, I'm glad Alex Hirsoux didn't make it to the final since it's the type of song and performance juries (used to?) fall for. But I'm sorry, as much as love ballads and voices, the song "mother" left me completely cold : first, the lyrics are just too cheesy ; ok he was talking to his mother but come on, this is too much! second, his voice... he can sing but I felt like I was listening to a karaoke singer, no deepness in the vocals, no charisma either, it reminded me of Would you? in 2012 = something that I can bother listening to but won't ever vote for since it's bland, especially compared with most of the other acts of the night.

The song in itself is just too much, too much shouting towards the end, too much cheesy tears in his voice. No, this wasn't Worth to be in the final imo. So no loss here, I don't think I'll change my mind about it, there are much better songs out there.

Who knows, maybe it's an ode to single mothers too!

Short summary: The first bunch of persons said that he had quite a good voice and the song was also quite good, the persons from the couple onwards didn't find his performance very good and they said that the song doesn't really fit in Eurovision.

So mean and pathetic... xfacepalm

But not so surprising, unfortunately. During a TV report, shown by the RTBF before the semi-final, Axel revealed that he was rejected of many castings, without even having the opportunity to sing. Only because of his appearance... What a world ! xdown

Wow, even I had trouble understanding some of those Flemish people in the clip without the subtitles and I'm Dutch

I didn't like the song unfortunately and I also thought that his vocals weren't that good during the performance, but I know that he has sung it a lot cleaner before. He is a very sympathetic guy too so it was sad that he didn't qualify. And since he didn't qualify I guess there will be fewer viewers for the final which will affect the points for the Netherlands too

I think Axel is responsible for mocking fat people by entering Eurovision, that's why he did not qualify.
