So mean and pathetic... xfacepalm

But not so surprising, unfortunately. During a TV report, shown by the RTBF before the semi-final, Axel revealed that he was rejected of many castings, without even having the opportunity to sing. Only because of his appearance... What a world ! xdown

Oh, and some are rejected because they can't sing or have an unpleasant voice, and they can't even do much about it.

It seems logical to me to be rejected from a singing casting if you can't sing. But what if you can actually sing pretty well but don't look like a greek god ? Isn't it unfair ?

As someone who works as an actor/singer let me tell you one thing : as unfair as it is, the first audition is all about how you look. Only at the "callback" or second audition will they look at your actual talent. Unfortunately bigger people are usually only hired in comedic roles with some exceptions usually for men.

It's indeed very unfair. But that's life nowadays, in a lot of situations, it's all about the looks.

This was just scary. I couldn't swallow it since the beginning and in the end, Europe couldn't either. Even though it is an emotional song on the paper, it just left me flat and coldblooded. He is a great vocal, but I felt no emotion at all here. And the performance in Copenhagen was somehow too dark and scary. It gave me goosebumps, but in a negative way.

I think he didn't deserve to qualify and the result he got is objective, from my point of view.

Interesting documentary over Axel, showed on RTBF before the semi-final :

This is one of the best examples for me that a big talent and a great voice got the wrong choice of the song. Or to be more precise: the wrong lyrics. I really hope he comes back, for in his interviews he comes across as a very nice person and he deserves a second chance. With the right song, he could end up very high next year.

Yesterday evening, Isabelle Beernaert, the backing dancer of Axel Hirsoux was a guest in the talk show "Reyers Laat" on Canvas, the second public television channel in Dutch speaking Belgium. She told that the Eurovision Song Contest is a big industrial thing, like a circus. The thing she missed the most at the Contest, is that an artist can't have contact with his/her public. Axel and Isabelle work from their heart, so they need to be feeded by the public, which is impossible at the Eurovision Song Contest. She was not scared to perform in front of so many viewers. Axel is a very pure and emotional guy, but strong anyway.

Lame excuse, blah blah blah.
The song was horrible, Axel sang it awfuly and staging was CREEPY right from the start.
Well deserved.

If you listen to the video, they are not speaking about or searching excuses, they only speak about how she and Axel felt last week.

Never mind the negative critics. ;) Next year, we'll come back stronger with an odd choice from the RTBF !

Remember their oddest choice ever who almost took the victory :

Oh my ! I was so embarrassed ! I found it so bad... Then I was flabbergasted by their results. Once again, the RTBF had proved me wrong...

Indeed, I'm nicely surprised how some analysis here are incredibly nuanced and subtle. ;)

When I heard Sanomi for the first time, I also thought it was bad. And I could not believe the voting. But it was such fun anyway! I even bought later the first and the second CD of Urban Trad, and I really liked it. I saw them live that summer at the Gentse Feesten. It was a great concert. xup

This wasn't an odd choice, it was an amazing choice :D
