Re: BELGIUM 2012

I'm quite happy that Kate Ryan is not going again. As much as I loved Je t'adore, I don't like her other songs. Plus, it's time for other singers to sing :)

Re: BELGIUM 2012

And also I've heard from some people on the VRT that maybe also the song would be selected internally because the rule of letting the people chose is not been accepted.

Don't know if this is true... but ok we'll see in November.

No thank you, never heard about her again since her attempt. Her song was good, but her presentation just sucked. She didn't deserved 23th but not top 10 either

Re: BELGIUM 2012

Several countries have started their search for their representative in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Belgian representative will be chosen internally by Flemish national broadcaster VRT as its their turn to enter a song for Eurovision. In recent weeks several rumours arised but things are starting to get more clear.
Our partners from eurosong.be made a video-interview with Steve De Coninck-De Boeck. Mr. Deconinck stated that the search is going on very strongly looking for several artists and styles which would be suitable for Eurovision. Several artists have been contacted and are still to be called for their interest, but also many artists proposed their wish to represent Belgium in the 2012 Eurovision. There is currently a shortlist of 25 artists available which will obviously not be published
Surely VRT will go for a strong soloartist but it doesn’t exclude the option to make a duo like the Azerbaijani television did with Eldar and Nigar. Obviously a number of artists have been circulated, on which we’ll make a round-up of some examples:
De Romeo’s
These three male singers have all entered in the past for Eurovision as solo-artists but without any success. Nowadays they have quiet some success as ‘De Romeo’s’. Davy Gilles, one of the band’s member stated recently clearly that they would like to represent Belgium in the Eurovision. However it seems unlikely that VRT will go for them, they are thinking too much to be a copy of De Toppers who represented the Netherlands in the 2009 Eurovision and failed big time
Yannick Bovy
Yannick Bovy is a quiet new singer in the belgian music industry but in recent months he’s getting a lot of attention on radio and television. The singer make people think on Michael Bubblé, but the singer stated already very clear to go for an own style. The choice for Yannick might be a realistic one for VRT with the right song.
Stan Van Samang
Stan Van Samang used to be known first in belgium for his acting career in several famous tv-series until he won a tv-show on national broadcaster where actors were taking part in a singing competition. Since then he has been one of the most loved artists of VRT, so the rumours that the singer is very high on the list of VRT is very realistic. The question will only be if the singer would go for it. Time will tell.
Lester and Abdou
Lester and Abdou are two friends from Antwerpen region, belgian’s second city. They participated in the X-Factor series just like Tom Dice and they released since then several singles which got quiet some airplay but never a smash hit. It is known that they wouldn’t be opposed to a Eurovision participation. The question will be if VRT would go again for an X-Factor participation.
Kevin
Kevin won the recent version of Pop Idol in belgium, so it’s clear that he might be on the shortlist of VRT. It is just wondered if the singer has already maturity enough and the voice to go for Eurovision
Kato
Kato ended second in the recent version of Pop Idol in belgium but she has got as much as attention as winner Kevin. Her single ‘The Joker’ even won the summerhit award of Radio2, the biggest radiochannel in Belgium. It is the same question like with Kevin if this singer would have the maturity to go for eurovision, sth I doubt a bit.
Free Souffriau
Free Souffriau is a very well known singer in the flemish part of Belgium and definately very loved by VRT, so there is no doubt that she is part on the shortlist for Eurovision. There is no doubt that she has a very good voice. It is just wondered if here style of music would be suitable to go for Eurovision. Or a drastical change in music style might be the salutation. Something to keep in mind this name however.
Tonya
Tonya is known from her participation in the first national final for Junior Eurovision. Since then she has obviously changed a lot and is currently working on new material. A participation in eurovision has always been a dream, so it’s likely that this talented could be in the running.
Katerine Avgoustakis
The name of Katerine Avgoustakis doenst need any explanation. We all remember the disqualification in the 2010 greek final for Eurovision as her song was leaked on youtube. Katerine would surely love to go to eurovision, but would it be for Belgium or Greece. I’m pretty sure the singer would like to represent Greece at one stage, the country of her origin. Or would VRT be putting her also on the list?
Kate Ryan
Kate Ryan has expressed on facebook some time ago that she wouldnt mind returning to Eurovision. It is there pretty sure that the name is also on the shortlist of VRT for the 2012 Eurovision. The only question we might ask if the national broadcaster would go for the singer again after the disapointing result in 2006 when ‘Je t’adore’ nearly missed to qualify for the final.
A decision on the artist is expected either in October or November. Once the announcement has been made, the search for the song will start.

Re: BELGIUM 2012

Greece can have Avgoustakis xrofl3 and... the Romeo's if they want hahaha. It would be horrible to send the Romeo's, but the VRT is wise enough I hope.

Re: BELGIUM 2012

As reported by oikotimes.com before Flemish National Broadcaster VRT announced already several weeks before through our partners from www.eurosong.be that the selection for the 2012 representative would be internal again, especially after the big success for Belgium in Oslo where Tom Dice obtained a sixth place in the final after reaching first place in the semifinal.

Several possible names to enter for the Belgian selection passed already but it seems that the 2006 Belgian representativie in Athens, Kate Ryan, is in full swing to re-enter the Eurovision Stage according to our colleagues from eurosong.be. The new awaiting international album of Kate Ryan was supposed to be released these weeks but suddenly an official confirmation arised that the official release would be only in the first part of 2012. A question if this would be a result because of a possible return to eurovision gave a clear answer ‘NO COMMENT’.

As Flemish broadcaster VRT mentioned the official announcement of the 2012 representative will be given between October and the beginning of December, we shouldn’t rule out at all the returnal of the 2006 fan favorite Kate Ryan! Let’s give it some time to find out an official announcement on this issue! It is clear that tension is rising considerably around Europe and definitely in Belgium too! A returnal of Kate Ryan might be welcomed by many Eurovision fans although there are as many people opposing a come back because of the bad result back in 2006. Time will surely tell!

Re: BELGIUM 2012

Actually she may try again

Kate Ryan, the European queen of dance music and the 2006 Belgian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest, has told the media she very much appreciated the experience she got at the contest.

Even though she didn't qualify for the final in 2006 with her song Je T'Adore, she didn't think of the whole participation in a bad way. "I would always do it again, it was an extremely enriching experience," Ryan said to Estonian media.

She added that meeting various people at the contest taught her a lot about her performances. "It made me grow as an artist," she explains.

But now a question every fan wants to know - would she do it for the second time? She stays a bit mysterious and says: "I would think about it and maybe I would participate again... but just maybe!"

Re: BELGIUM 2012

One of the other names lot mentioned to represent is Yannick Bovy.
His candidature is supported by David Van Ooteghem and Albrech Wauters of Radio 2, the most listened radio station in Belgium.

Here can you see him performing his new single:

Re: BELGIUM 2012

Actually I'm all for Kate Ryan. This time she could "fix" what she did wrong the first time.

1) Send a song in her normal style and not some Swedish schlager-dance-pop mix, just pure on dance.

2) Make it a song in French! Although more or less all her European hits have been covers, they have one thing in common and that's that they have been in French. Her English language singles have never lived up to the success of her French language ones and I guess this is what people expect by her.

If she can manage a strong enough song and present a song in the style that made her popular in the first place, I can see her having some success in ESC.

I kinda liked Je t'adore and I think it deserved better, but I think part of the failure was that it wasn't at all what people expected by her, it sounded more like some song you could see in Swedish MF.

A song in French could cause some community problems over here :s. But I agree, if Belgium would send Kate Ryan, it would better if she would sing in French!
