But won't the band feel awkward or contradictory to attend the contest when it's so celebrated by the LGBTQ community and especially traveling to The Netherlands where it's a country with political views that are vastly opposite of what they believe in? I do question their motives in participating the contest to be honest and what they want to achieve.

You think all ESC artists are/were pro-LGBTQ?

While Eurovision is big within the community and meant alot to the community throughout the years, there is still this wrong notion that it's somehow almost "exclusively" LGB+T, when the average viewer doesn't even belong to that community to begin with. This is first and foremost a pan-continental music contest and thus we have broadcasters from countries with various different views on these matters entering. I think there is a misconception about Eurovision and I think the community in particular think they somehow "own" the show, well we don't.

Any chance the EBU will let Belarus vote like they did with Serbia and Montenegro back in 2006?

Efendi needs these 20+ pts Oo

I mean I get the joke here lol , but I hope they won't get that privilege, it was odd already with S&M back in 2006 (and I think something like that never happened again when a country withdrew).

The EBU shouldn't punish the Belarusian people, though. Thus, letting them vote would be a lovely gesture - especially if Belarus gets disqualified (and if they choose to not withdraw from the competition).

Well, 50% of the Belarusian vote would still be juries, and the other 50% we assume are legit televotes (but in a country where no vote is real, do we trust that really?). I think it's more to show the broadcaster that no, they're not welcome as long as they are involved in human rights violations like that.

I think you misunderstood my statement. I never said it's exclusively for LGBTQ community. I'm saying it's so celebrated by the community. So surely the band are bound to meet openly out members of the community throughout the contest, who belong to a community that the band is against of.

Plus, I'm not saying that's the only reason why their participation is questionable. It's also the political views of the country they are going are so different from theirs. And that's just a couple of reasons that make me question their motives.

Unless they are like Hatari.

How about Armenia? Should EBU let Armenian people vote, because Armenia withdrew?

I would say no. This is a different kind of thing I would say. If I remember correctly, then Serbia & Montenegro had to withdrew, since the Serbian part was angry over that the Montenegrin juries had voted heavily for the artists that qualified from their semifinal and almost nothing on the serbian songs. Montenegro got angry at the Serbians for not letting No Name compete and asked EBU to accept it the entry. This put EBU on the spot and decided to find a middle ground between the two, not being able to compete, but to vote.

Belarus is more likely to become like Georgia 2009, where the song got disqualified and the country were not going to send anyone else, forcing themselves to be kicked out. Now though, it sounds like we will get a song nevertheless, so I guess we will wait and see for that.

And no, Armenia withdrew way before the deadline and has no chance in hell they get allowed to. Not that Armenian TV wants to show the contest in full, I am sure they will probably block the Azeri song in some way, since it is after all a bit provocative I guess, singing the name of one of the most famous spies in World War II....

Armenia didn't submit a song. Belarus did.

Like Russia submitted a song in 2017, but they have to withdrew, because politic reasons between Ukraine and Russian entry Julia Samoylava. Although Russia submitted a song, Russian people can't vote back then. Same rules for everyone?

I understand what you mean, but you asked the question if they'll feel awkward to enter the contest due to its big following in the community, and I simply tried to answer why it's not awkward that a homophobe enters it because to many broadcasters and acts out there, they treat it as a song contest (which is what it is in the end of the day), and whether there's a big gay following or not is not relevant to them (and although I hate what they stand for, it is true that this contest is not a gayfest even if the community thinks it is).

The Heads of Delegation meeting is today I think so I assume we'll find out soon whether they did submit another song or have been disqualified. Or pulled out.
