Re: BELARUS 2011

The 1st title of the new song is I Love Belarus (the main idea doesn't really differ from the previous one). According to authors, they haven't decided the final song title yet.

The lyrics has been already written.

The song will be presented on March 14.

Well, atleast they are keeping the original concept

I hope, since they "love it" so much, that they can throw in some lines in Belarussian and add some ethnic elements, somehow I doubt it's that kind of "motherland love" song though

such kind of stuff was popular in the USSR. They could show their love by singing in the native lang. It is natural to love the motherland, who doesn't? So, I suppose the song is the direct order from Batko (Lukashenko).

Why don't they just save the trouble of embarrassing themselves, and not send in an entry at all?

This is pretty much an "eff you" joke entry and if it wasn't clear before it certainly is now if they wrote a new song called "I Love Belarus".

Well it's not like they really have anything to say "eff you" to. All of their entries in the contest except for one have ranged from mediocre to awful. If they want to be recognized, they need to send better songs.

I already have a feeling that this will be my guilty pleasure song this year. I don't know what to expect really.

The song can be considered as a history-lesson about the ancient USSR-times , and this is honourable!
The ancient mentalities are still alive not only in Belarus but also in other eastern countries, only they don´t sing about it. They present harmless songs which have nothing to do with the reality in their country (like Russia, Ukraine). But this concerns also western countries.
Are all these countries good because they send "good" songs?
For example, Serbia was (is?) an extremly nationalist country which startet the war in Ex-Yougoslavia. But the songs of this country were apreciated, because they did´t talk about these things (at least not in English)

All the countries in the Ex-Yu are "extremely nationalist". Each side was at fault in that war, and you can blame most sides for the start of the war if you twist the story enough.

Hopefully they can fix this song up so that it's not as bad as it sounded at first. But I'm VERY doubtful.

You better don't comment things, you obviously have no clue about ;)

I would argue that Belarus is not a comparable case, at this time, to a lot of the other former-USSR states which adopted very quickly a pattern of neo-Schumpetarian economics. The idea that this song is some sort of post-Soviet attempt at national realism is therefore an incorrect assertion in my mind.
