Why do you say the new lyrics aren't official? It's already up on eurovision.tv and they've run a news-item about the change of lyrics aswell.

Well, maybe rock-pop is popular in Belarus, but still you got my point.

As for the "bribery" thing, I know it's a custom, but it's still funny how they supposedly every year give vodka to all commentators from national broadcasters

^ According to the authors they are working on the song until March 10 ;)

Yes, I've got your point. You have no point. We are here to discuss an entry, not for slamming traditions.

I don't think that it's funny. Commentators have an excuse for being a--holes - blame it on vodka

And when did I "slam" a tradition?

"afterall this is the country that "bribes" commentators in Eurovision with vodka"
"but it's still funny how they supposedly every year give vodka to all commentators from national broadcasters"
First of all not the country but the broadcaster.
why vodka? They give a lot of things, not just vodka. What is supposed to be funny when other delegations give away drinks too? They aren't funny, I assume, but having such tradition for Belarus is funny...

The bribe thing was sarcasm.

As for "funny" I didn't mean it in a negative manner.

Actually the Swedish commentators mention this EVERY year. I think it's a "funny" little gesture indeed, not meant that it's bad :/

Offcourse I know it's not the "country" Belarus that gives it away, but in here most people are not referring to the whole countries, but their entries/broadcasters/delegations/acts or what can be connected to Eurovision I guess.

I guess other gives stuff too, but I've just heard of Belarus though.

I know very well that this is a traditional custom, why does it has to be interpret a bad thing when I say it's "funny" that they do this to all commentators?

^ and why is it supposed to be funny at all if you think that it's normal.
Is being kind and showing respect to someone is funny?

There's broadcaster, there's country - it's simple. Here, there and everywhere

Btw, BTRC hasn't said any single word about disqualification yet.

From what I've heard, BTRC couldn't care less about the song they send since they aren't in charge of the selection. They pretty much put forward whatever ONT give them. ONT clearly hasn't read the rules of the contest clearly. They should get this song checked with the EBU and find a replacement in time otherwise they'll surely be disqualified at the reference meeting.

xyeah

except it's BTRC which signs all papers and BTRC which had a final say while choosing the entry, BTRC which has connections with EBU etc.
ONT is going to take part in preparations but BTRC is the one who's responsible and who deals with EBU.

Re: BELARUS 2011

That would be funny if Belarus did not make the cut off date for sending their entry. Are they trying to state that University people lie and this performance has been made after September 1st? It's weird when broadcaster or artist don't check if they are ok with the rules. The same happened in Poland this year with a group "The positive", which actualy was not disqualified, but withdrew (as for official statement in tvp website). They stated they did not know someone recorded their performance and they did not know it is online (who cares they put it on their official channel on youtube and few hours after the news about possible disqualification they deleted it! Also - even if it was not recorded it has been performed to public before September 1st and when they sent it they should now that they are against the rules).

I wonder if Belarus would force the University to make a statement that this song was not performed at this concert they made or will choose their entry fast? For me when the broadcaster and artist don't know the rules they should not be trying to take part in Eurovision or if they made the mistake the song should be replaced asap. Plus they should make an official statement on that, because it's unacceptable that there is no official statement on such situation (we all remember the situation in Ukraine - statement of TV appeared very fast and the controversial situation was clear). ONT doesn't care about ESC - I don't care about Belarus at Eurovision.

Re: BELARUS 2011

I definitely like this song :)

I'm with you on that one. I feel like I'm gonna give it a good score just because I love it, not because it's a spectacular song or anything. I mean it's not too bad of a song, there are just ones that are definitely better. I could imagine the "updated" version of it to be something similar anyways. I hope they don't get rid of the military chorus style lines. I love those lines

Re: BELARUS 2011

Hmm... why has the entry been taken away from the title of this topic?

Any news? So far we don't know if the performance on university thing is actually true or fabricated or whatever.

Re: BELARUS 2011

The University thing is true. The university has confirmed that the song was performed before September 1st. The song has apparently been rejected by the broadcaster and there will be a new song. It will still be performed by Anastasia Vinnikova however.

Re: BELARUS 2011

No new yet huh?

Why insisting in keeping the singer? She's nothing to write home about.

Well, I hope maybe NOW we can get an entry in Belarussian finally!
