Re: Balearica Island - Revival of the thread

*cough*

Since the last post was in November last year, I'd like to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D:D:D

So, I updated the first post here a bit, and I've kept the YouTube playlist with all the Balearica Island entries updated (and you can find it HERE, because I don't want to spam with videos here), and I plan to get the Wiki article updated again soon, but the main reasons I'm bringing this thread back are these:
1. 2 new entries
2. A huge change coming up

So, the 2 new entries. For NSC 88, I held an internal NF with 4 trance songs, and I eventually decided on Aligator feat. Daniel Kandi - The Perfect Match, because I can't remember ever seeing a video this moving in an EDM video before. It's usually just people running around in cities or on beaches. This one however, tells a story. A sad one.

Entry no 2 is for the new spinoff. In NSC 79, I had planned to send Headhunterz - Dragonborn, which is a hardstyle tribute to Skyrim. However, Rumia beat me to it, and sent Malukah - The Dragonborn Comes, and the NSC Mods decided that the 2 songs were too similar, and I had to send something else. But now it does get the chance to shine after all (if it's accepted as a cover, but I don't see it wouldn't be).

And then I have some big news. The Perfect Match will be the last Balearica Island trance track for quite a while, and Dragonborn will be the last hardstyle for a while. I will send some dubstep from Trondheim in NSC 89, and then take a break from electronic music. In NSC 90, Balearica Island is gonna head down a different musical track. That's about all I'm gonna say about it now tho, but expect something very different. ;)

Hehe, quite the opposite actually.

I usually don't like too many techno etc. songs but I did like a few of your entries from that genre. So I'm looking even more forward to your entries from a genre that I possibly even like in the first place. :p

Yeah, better send something good or you'll never get any points from me in the future.

Re: Balearica Island - Revival of the thread

Right... :p

So if nothing unexpected happens, then this will be the last electronic entry from Balearica Island in a while (phear not, it will return one day).

AutoLaser is actually from Trondheim (where I live), and Magenta is the most popular of his tracks, and my favorite as well. I've found a live video from a TV performance he did a year ago, but the sound is really bad on it, so I'll have to send a picture video instead, unfortunately.

Here's the live video:

And here's one with better sound quality:

Awesome song, as always. Btw, don't change 'your' genre, I hope you do know BI is a completly unique nation, no entries can be compared to yours. :(

Re: Balearica Island - Revival of the thread

I'm really glad you like my entries, but I feel the need to show that there's more to my taste of music than just EDM. It's not a permanent change, but after more than 40 EDM entries, I need to show a bit of diversity. It's not an attempt to get better scores tho, I still think I'll fail in the semis. :p

Re: Balearica Island - \../

Right. At least it can only go up from here. :p

I've actually managed to decide on my 12 next entries now, but knowing myself, I'm sure there will be something unexpected popping in every now and then. In other words, Balearica Island will most likely be around for a few more years. ;) And there are some EDM songs on the list as well, so to those of you who liked my old entries; fear not, the old BI will return. :D

But for NSC 90, to begin the new era, I've decided to go to Finland. I saw Nightwish live for the first time this year, and even tho Tarja wasn't there to do the female vocals, they still played my favorite song, and that is the one I'm sending: I Wish I Had An Angel.

Re: Balearica Island - Doom's Day

For NSC 91, we're heading to Norway. A few years ago, I heard about a band called Rammsund, who performs Rammstein songs in Norwegian, and even got to see them live, and they were awesome. And then they broke up, but the guy on the vocals (and some of the other guys) are also in a different band, called Staal (who's also broken up recently, but in return, Rammsund is back). The song I'm sending isn't actually my favorite song from Staal, but the title Dommedagen means Doom's Day, and with the confirmation deadline for this edition, it felt perfect.

So here it is, Staal - Dommedagen:

Re: Balearica Island - Opeth - Harvest

Wasn't expecting any 12 pointers on this song, so again, massive thank you to Zechonia! :D

So the world didn't end after all. A little disappointed to get my lowest score so far with this song, which could be related to the many DQ's in my semi, but I doubt it would have made much difference. :p Still, Staal will return to represent Balearica Island one day, and hopefully do a little better. :)

For NSC 92, Balearica Island stays in the Nordic countries for the 6th edition in a row  Just noticed this now, and I'm a bit surprised actually. Will go somewhere else for NSC 93 tho. ;) Anyway, next entry is from Sweden. It's a band I've seen live twice (they didn't play this song tho), called Opeth:

Re: Balearica Island - Opeth - Harvest

Posted this in the semi final results thread, but I have a feeling it will come in handy again: :p

So, another failure. 25th, which is a bit disappointing. However, if this is an attempt to make me return to the old style of EDM entries, you are not succeeding. I have plans. ;)

So, for NSC 93, Balearica Island leaves Scandinavia, and since we've never qualified with a Scandinavian entry (in 10 attempts, 12 if you count "Hey Scandinavia!" and "Nothing But You", which had Norwegian lyrics), that's probably a good idea. So instead, we're going to Japan for the first time, with a band my roommate introduced me to:

Good to see that someone liked it, but unfortunately, not many enough. Can't say I'm shocked tho, even tho I hoped it would be fighting for a qualification spot.

The next entry is from a band that has represented Balearica Island once before, in NSC 76. That entry was however a remix by Digital Boy, this time it's gonna be a pure Hollywood Undead entry.
People of the Nation Song Contest, fans of Balearica Island, and other lunatics, here is BEEN TO HELL!

Re: Balearica Island - Sverige!

News update:

There's been a bit of action since my last post. Rammstein - Engel was sent last edition, and did pretty much as expected, unfortunately. And I just found out that this was the 50th entry for Balearica Island. xshock I think it was in the wrong semi tho, as it got quite a lot of points in the reju. Good to see that people liked it tho, even if it didn't qualify.

But, Balearica Island also entered the previous spinoff, Melodic Picture 2, with Meja - All 'Bout The Money (DJ Zeb & Sezam's Radio Mix), and did MUCH better than expected. 3rd place was amazing, and is the best BI result in a spinoff so far! :D In fact, the only top 10 result came in the Halloween spinoff a long time ago, where Rockstar's version of Du Hast finished 9th. But that's history, this is the new best result:

In NSC 96, we're going back to the roots with an electronic entry. In NSC 82, I sent DJ Yan - Azerbaijan, because the ESC was in Azerbaijan. This year, I'm doing the same, and with everything happening in Sweden, it's gonna be Basshunter - Sverige:

Re: Balearica Island - Freewheel Burning

The 12th DNQ entry in a row... :(

For NSC 97, I'm going back to MY roots. I've been a fan of Judas Priest since I was about 8 years old, which is now more than 20 years ago, and this next entry was actually released in 1984, my year of birth. With Fast & Furious 6 now going in theaters, I think this is a good time to send this entry, as the lyrics are perfect for this movie (you can find the lyrics here).

Here is Judas Priest - Freewheel Burning:
