I was so annoyed with both Armenia and Azerbaijan for not wanting to sit next to each other in the press conference. They actually had to rearrange the cards putting Azerbaijan at the end of the able. So if there are two countries that can't put politics aside, it's the two I just mentioned.

That was really ugly and sad. Eurovision is the place for uniting nations through music and if a country is not on speaking terms with another and can't overcome its differences in a simple party, then it shouldn't be allowed to take part in it. It all comes down to unacceptable behavior to me.

Exactly. We all having opinions about Russia's politics but at least they don't bring it into the contest. In the words of Andras from Hungary last night "If the artists can get along, then so should everybody else"

I'm very disappointed this year ... 2013 was so strong compared to 2014, there were so many great songs and singers. And if I compare this year's entry to Farid's from last year there is a day and night difference. I know, you can't expect a great song from the same country every year but a lot of songs these year are lacking. Semi final yesterday was utterly boring.

I agree with you in general but not regarding Farid, never liked the song. I'm sure he's a good singer though. To me Dilara is very similar to Sabina Babayeva's act in 2012. Sabina was a solid performer though. I hope Dilara can put herself together and deliver on Saturday.

The thing about Dilara is that she is too nice. Even the Azerbaijani juries complemented her on being a collaborative person (she didn't complain about anything during the national finals), but I think that is a weakness of hers. She is a teamplayer, but sometimes you need to be stubborn to know what's good and what's not. I'm under the impression that she's doing whatever her team is ordering her to do.

That's not the only problem nthough, the whole production this year is lacking imo.

Unfortunately I was at work last night; and could only watch the show partly on low volume... Watching the show again now that I am back from work; I can see why people were not very impressed with Dilaras performance last night. I am sure she can do much better vocally. I still think the song is good and that Dilara has a very good voice.
But she sure needs to improve in the final if getting the good result I have predicted for her....

But 'Hold Me' was a pop ballad and this is a simple ballad. The difference is that even you don't believe it 'Hold Me' is more up-tempo.Ballads can win with simple staging cause they are basically based on the voice. Pop ballad is something else...it's a ballad but the much simplicity can be a staying in the semi. 'Hold Me' need that impressive choreography to do that well. 'Start A Fire' need only Dilara. And alhtough I hate to admit it based on their eurovision songs Dilara has stronger voice than Farid (but in if we compare it with Farid's 'Yia budu pomnit' they are somehow in both amazing).Which means that to show for what the song is about Farid need it the back signers cause his voice is for ballads. Dilara doesn't need them. She can stand in the stage by her own and made everyone crying...xshrug I believe that someone had a wrong idea about this song...The dancer isn't bad at all but the shots which are taken are from wrong camera IMO.

Also everything in Farid's performance was fine, but in Dilara's something was wrong at all... I'm not sure if it was in everyone's tv but the music was louder than her voice and the sound was like we are in the stadium, when in all the others was fine xthink. I don't know if this is what everyone means with "It was really bad". I believe that with a bit improvement and better sound in tv it will be in the top 10.

I try to be fair with both. I try to assume the opinions about these to songs...If it was my own opinion everything in 'Hold Me' would have been super wow awesome

I am really inpressed and Dilara is amazing on stage and the song is amazeballs, but I thought the performance was going to be way more complicated!
Anywho, I hope she (or some of the other acts I love) wins on Saturday! xcheer

Ouch she should have worked on her English more for this occasion at least :| Russian twins dont speak any English AFAIK and they still sounded much better than her. ( and this wouldn't annoy me so much if Start a Fire wasn't a lightyear ahead of Shine in terms of originality and everything ). Hope she pulls a better performance in the final.

So, as I discovered the songs of the 1st semi-final on Tuesday, I'll give my opinion of the Azerbaijani entry this year:

Well done Azerbaijan, to me this is certainly your most beautiful and interesting song ever since it gets away from the "too standard and formatted" songs you tend to send. "Star a fire" is a very nice and slow ballad with some hints of traditional instruments. The performance was fantastic, the singer is very good, but like Moldova, her accent is very thick, they really should have gone for Azerbaijani, that would have been perfect. As always with Azerbaijan, the stage presentation was polished and nice, all in red. I didn't try to do my ranking so soon, but it will be high for sure. As much as I loved "Drip Drop", "When the Music Dies" and "Hold Me", this one is much more riskier and daring, I appreciate that. I look forward to the split voting results to see who voted this song the most. I guess Azerbaijan will be out of the top 5 for once, but will be in the top 10.

Congrats for your qualification Azerbaijan, you're one of my favourites of the 1st semi, I wish you good luck for the final, see you on Saturday.

Dilaria is doing quite bad in the charts atm. I fear Azerbaijan may get its worse result ever. Its in the first half as well! I wonder if the Juries will save them a bit, Its not my favourite but I really hope they don't totally bomb.

Bless em'. I'm sure they flop big time in the final and kill that record of theirs.

This might be the worst ballad of this year's ESC, but of course I see it in top 5 with ease. You know, y'all...

Jesus, has Cyprus widrawal made you this bitter? You've done nothing but throw your negativity around every possible thread I came into today. What a nasty mood.

What?

I made negative comments in 3 threads, where my bottom 3 of the final is, what does Cyprus have to do with this?

I just dislike this type of Swedish-penned fake-folk ballads year after year from Azerbaijan, this one sounds like a 3 times weaker version of "When the music dies".

Just my bad luck, they were the 3 threads I went into first thing since I logged in. I think this is the best Azeri entry ever actually. Yes, it is similar to When the Music Dies which was quite good as well, but this is much more haunting. Sadly she's killing it with her appaling English accent. Too bad she isn't singing it in her own language.
