I don't like swedish songs from Azerbaijan ...
I'm so sorry ICTIMAI would be "ashamed" for sending a folk-song in azeri language :l

I hope in 2014 for something like Latvia 2009 but in Azerbaijani. I like the song and people remember entertaining performance. the people of Europe must hear our beautiful mother tongue.
And pirates are cool!

You mean Latvia 2008? As Latvia finished last in 2009, it was far from remembered!

I echo most people's statement in wishing a folk song from Azerbaijan next year, here's hoping.

I don't care what they send as long as its not bloody Swedish, and the singer isn't from an elite family, which this year was the first time the singer wasn't. It would be nice to hear something traditional to their country in Azeri (however its put). It would at least be worthy of the good positions they get year after year.

I think this is unnecessary to complain about Swedish works of Azerbaijan. They try to do their best and Swedish people are not faultless. So they may even fail with Swedish composers. If EBU is ok with that, then why not we? xshrug

You're completely right, but I think people are just looking for something more authentic.

But we've had female solo singers, male solo singers and duos... it's time for Azerbaijan to send a group! :)

Because the EBU is ok with a lot of things that are not acceptable... Of course Azerbaijan is free to buy tailor-made songs for the ESC in order to win the competition, but it kind of defeats the purpose.

I know it gets on Azeri nerves when people keep complaining about their Swedish songs and I'm sorry. I actually liked their song in ESC 2013 and correctly predicted it would end up in the top 3. But still... you wonder about the soul of the Contest when such huge amounts of money are being poured into a single entry, with no regard to cultural diversity or authenticity. Granted, it's something many ESC countries have been guilty of recently, but Azerbaijan just happens to go even further than everyone else.

I suggest Sabina Babayeva.

Failing a traditional song in Azeri, which would be very interesting, I wouldn't mind this at all.
To me, "When the music dies" is the best Azeri entry yet.

Second this! I think Azerbaijan should simply choose her internally this time, no more of this hilarious (although it will be missed for the wrong reasons ) selection show.

Sabina with a ballad in Azeri, with some ethnic motives... something like the Azeri-ethno version of "When the music dies".

No more r&b because it have been an overused formula over and over again. With soo many talented performers why to do that show to select the entry with many newcomers???. My perfect entry from :az: in 2014 could be something like this:

1)pop Folkish attempt

2)a rock entry (one of my favorite FSC songs ever xheart)

How about "don't import from anywhere", and "send something domestic for a change?"

Who cares about good results if 90% of the work is done by someone else year after year after year? What they do is like the equivalent of some rich guy commissioning a painter to paint a very nice picture, then asking him/her not to sign off on their work so that you can put your signature on the bottom right hand side of the canvas and claim it as yours. It's inorganic and extremely contrived, but I don't think sending music from their country is something they care about; they're just after the cheap and momentary self-validation of seeing their name high up on the Top 10. It reaffirms their self-worth, unfortunately.

I read an article a couple of weeks ago about that last year's second placing (if not big 5) is next year's Pre qualifier. Is that true? If it is, then Azerbaijan is pre qualifier?

That is not the same case, because everybody can see transparent who is the songwriter of an entry..

I've never seen such a rule change anywhere
