But Eurovision's main concept is about representing your country, and it's one thing that the entries are trying to sound as if they come from another country, but to not even let locals make the entries but simply import a finished package? I mean what type of representation of Azeri music is that? What is Azerbaijan actually showcasing Europe "hey we can buy an entry from Sweden... look how global we are" ?

It's a song contest, not an ethnicity contest. Youth in Azerbaijan is listening to the same type of music that anyone in this world is listening to. Popular music is shaping the idea of what music is supposed to be in many countries. Those Swedish imports are also not very Swedish, they are Americanized. It's good to represent your culture, but it's not the end of the world if a country decides to send a modern song that can be easily understood by everyone.

It's a song contest where entries represent countries, otherwise we would have just random songs and no countries competing... I didn't talk about ethnicity though.

What you practically say is that Azerbaijan don't have any people capable of making music (modern or anything)... xshrug

No, I did not say that. As I stated before it's the choice of the juries, they obviously prefer working with Stefan or Dimitirs (?). Look, I don't disagree with you, but I don't think the matter is grave enough to start worrying about it. Some day, I'm sure juries will get bored and make different decisions.

It's just a pity and it's against the whole Eurovision spirit imo, also it's obviously unfair to Azeri talents who don't get a chance.

A lot of it comes from having ESC being a source of national pride, I'm sure. They'd rather ignore their local talents because they're convinced using them might get them a much lower score, or even worse, miss the final. I'd prefer local entries, personally. Eurovision is not that big of a deal at the end of the day.

That's only wishful thinking. Most of the countries doesn't seem to care about representing the traditional music or songs in the native language which are also popular in the respective country.

They want to win or at least a good place in the final... and the best way to do so is to send mainstream by Swedish producers. AND it works pretty well for Azerbaijan ;).

Who talked about traditional music though? I mainly pointed out the fact that Azerbaijan won't even include Azeri composers/songwriters in their entries... xshrug

It's not wishful thinking though, that IS what the concept is, it's just sad that EBU is not better at defining the concept and introduce rules to really respect the whole purpose of ESC...

Oh, we know that there are other facts to Azeri success rather than the entries themselves... $$$

Oh please, anything else you want to add to your list of hatred? It seems that nothing is ever right when it comes to Azerbaijani entries.

Hatred? xshrug

Criticism is not the same as hatred... that's one of the most important lessons.

Even EBU admitted this so what's their to hide anymore? Let's just hope it won't continue...

The only thing i hate about Azerbaijan is when you make a bad critic about their performance in Eurovision, they're always like ''boo you hate us''.
One day in the past,i said i didn't liked Safura and made a silly ''Anti-Safura'' page about her.I was 14 at that moment. And guess what,i got lots of obscene words and death threats from Azeri fans.
This is a freaking contest.A CONTEST.Learn it and learn well.

You seem to preach a lot. Prove it or it didn't happened. Nobody here threatened you, maybe it happened in your head.

I've only liked one Azerbaijani Eurovision entry (2012) because they're usually bland and don't represent Azerbaijan at all, but that doesn't mean I hate the country or their music at all. In fact, I ADORE this song:

Ok, you are right. The whole system is dreadful, so what? What can we do? To start the revolution? The only possible way to change the attitude is to change the government, which is hardly possible. Moreover, 99% do not care about the contest, most simply ignore it or just watch the final in May. So what is the point of discussing this over and over. We are perfectly aware of the whole situation.

Guys, this thread is to discuss everything related to Azerbaijan in Eurovision 2014. We are not here to discuss members' qualities. In case you forget ;)

Back to the topic, I read today that "Alone" might be the Azeri entry. Is that right? I really hope it isn't cause it's a snoozefest. A little copy of "Gravity" but sleepy. I'd like something really authentic from Azerbaijan for a change :)
