Re: AUSTRIA 2019

Under the risk to be called a promoter again. ;)
Supposedly there will be a report tonight about 19:45 CET in the main news program of ORF "Zeit im Bild" regarding Hyäne Fischer.

^so, ORF confirmed officially their bid. That's something new. Up to now the ESC ambition was qualified as a simple marketing gag. Let's wait and see... But I still doubt Eberhard Forcher would choose them. Professional as the Austrian Delegation was in the last years, I'd suppose that the decision is already made and the work on the act has already begun.

I agree. I thought the ORF would use the report to shut down the media reports about Hyäne Fischer. It surprised me that they didn't do that.

By the way , the manager of Hyäne Fischer is kind of "hantig" as we say in Upper Austria, I don't know the english expression.

But I have to say, she knows how to play the game:

Alexander Eder for Eurovision 2020 and TVOG2019

The newspaper ""Tiroler Tageszeitung" quotes Alexander Eder:
"The song contest would be a great honor, but now other things are more important."

This is his latest cover:

It would be cool, if the ORF actually sent Hyäne Fischer. They could have a marvelous Alpine panorama on the LED screens and be dressed like in the video. It's amusing that people are reminded of Eva Braun by the video and that some people even complain about it for that reason.
Of course, the ORF will most likely send a song in English, which won't cause any kind of controversy. I think they will just send a modern mainstream pop song in English. I would like them to pick a song in German again and something that stands out.

That would certainly attract attention, especially in Israel. And a little controversy never hurts. But Hyäne Fischer is only selected over Eberhard Forcher's dead body.
In his video he could barely hide his distaste or is "crude mixture" a compliment?

What surprises me is that Matt and Sean ignore the biggest controversy so far, or has anyone of you ever read so much about an act that is not even selected yet? Even wiwibloggs has dealt with it, albeit with misinformation. All important German newspapers have reported more about Austria's Hyäne Fischer than about their own selection process.

But water under the bridge, in a few days ORF will announce an english sung tune without controversy attached to and it will be alright.

Simon Lewis could be another great candidate for continuing our "male-vocalist-with-english-name-tradition"... With a good song of course

I'm still expecting the "pop duo" though

Such a small country and so many talents.

And so creative with English-sounding pseudonyms.

Not so sure about that one anymore. Vaclav Noid Barta was my favourite male singer in 2015 with a mesmerizing deep throat voice yet crystal clear voice and his song song in duet with Marta Jandova failed to impress.

And Alexander Eder is not ripe yet to deliver something as great as "Hope never dies" was. His Michael Buble cover bores me.

Which make me cringe tbh. I hope Alexander Eder does not opt for Alex Jones, lol.

Re: AUSTRIA 2019

Alexander Eder did not pass the sing-off of the Voice with "Ring of fire" and for the first time, it felt a bit bleak to me.

For three shows straight, he did not evolve, only relied on his very deep voice.

Re: AUSTRIA 2019

Matthias Nebel was another great candidate from Austria, and he is an amazing range.

He made it to the semifinals :)

The problem with the Voice this year, that Austrian and Swiss candidates overperformed and it felt like producers had to give Matthias a strange song like "Wrecking Ball" to him instead of house burner like something from Limp Bizkit or Link Park.

But we are used to producers putting their fingers on a show from Eurovision, aren't we?

Jessica Schaffler from Austria made it to the finals. And although she is unique and authentic artist with amazing vocal capabilities, she reminds too much of Jamie-Lee Kriewitz

I don't think she can win the show, and they would not let her.

Hm I don't really agree with you on that. On the one side :cz: 2015 was nothing special in my opinion, neither the song, nor Vaclavs voice. And I don't get the voice comparison anyway. I mean it's all about Alexanders young age... (A bit like with George Ezra) On the other side I really like Alexanders cover! If it actually was his own song and if he competed in Eurovision with it then it would easily be top 10 or even top 5 material...

I have to quote Cesár Sampson right after the grand final:
I would like to know how these betting odds come about.

Something like this version of "Jedermann" of Pizzera & Jaus would be great. It's a duo and - boy - it's dynamic, but I wouldn't call it pop:
