Well the good thing for Austria is that nobody can vote against Conchita. They can only vote for one of the other 25 options.
It doesn't take universal appeal to win Eurovision. Just for people liking you enough to bother voting.
And her fans and some gays and a lot of ballad lovers are not likely to vote anywhere else , eapecially if she is after Sweden and Armenia.
Besides, I know Slovenia Switzerland, Germany, Hungary are not voting for Austria no matter what but on a year when she might be winning, 12 should come, shouldn't they ?

What a STUNNING perfomance this was! Austria, you stole my heart. I really hope you guys will win - especially in a time and moment like this, in which the LGBT community needs more support. Congratulations on your qualification and good luck saturday, I will keep my fingers crossed.

I have NEVER in all the years that I watch Eurovision seen an artist being celebrated that loudly by the public during an interview in the greenroom. But she deserved it. She was simply amazing! I'm sooooooo happy! And what a suspense - announcing her at the very end.

That's not possible for Chontina to win today, as even three countries voted for him to disqualified. But even qualifing counts. That's great and what result ever ends up, he must be proud of himself and should know that there are people behind him.

Great vocals indeed, but, and I'm sure if most people were honest with themselves, Conchita is getting so much hype and attention about one thing. You all know what that is

I would, and I can assure you that the beard plays no role for me. If you made a blind test of this song, I am sure most of the tested people would say it is a powerful ballad. Lovely lyrics, BTW.

Yes, she is getting attention, but it is not up to her. This song sung by a woman would be a hit, I am pretty sure.

Conchita passing through was an incredible moment. She may not be the best singer in the world but her performance was heartfelt and meaningful. I thought she was about to mess up at the end when she was late coming into the bridge but then out came that big note and I got shivers.
We are going through very dark times in Europe at the moment. Some people think that Conchita is merely an attention seeker (she's a drag queen, what do you expect?) but it's clear tonight that deep inside, Tom Neuwirth is a lovely, caring person. They mean well with this song and he wants Conchita to sing for all of us who have struggled.
After tonight, I can say with more confidence than ever that Conchita is going for the win. We need this moment.

Were there no backing vocals cause the vocals sounded very small and meek :? Having backing vocals could have covered a lot of that up
Have to disagree.. I think it would have ruined the impact of the song if there were backing singers. Its one person on their own, singing their heart out about retribution. I think if you put backing singers into it, it would have taken something away from it.

This is the type of song that would be no hit outside of ESC, as it's a mediocre take at 80's Bond songs and the type of song you'd find in ESC but feels very dated in the "real world" so to speak... we have that type of songs each year... packaged in attention act which wouldn't get the half of the attention without the beard
