Ohhh a little more of favouritism and attention from Danish TV, please?? Presenting her like "The Queen of Austria", that flirting with the host.... Do they think we're stupid?

It was very obvious what they did xshrug

I like this song not because of the hype. I liked it immediately after the first listen. Before I heard this song I thought it was going to be a joke (also thought she wanted attention). I would have never ever supported this if the song had no deeper meaning. Also I like the theatratical aspect of this act and Conchita is an interesting character.

Well, each to their own... I only hear a dated song which is trying to sound as Shirley Bassey or something but obviously fails at doing so.

I still think there's lots of people who wouldn't even give this a second thought if it weren't for the whole act behind it... I'm not saying you're one of those since I know this is the type of songs you'd support, but there's many that seems to be jumping on the hype bandwagon that would wetting themselves over anything Conchita would sing...

If you are talking about the composition itself then (with all due respect) you're wrong as Shirley Bassey would literally kill for this piece of music, with this production. It's as good as any of the John Barry Bond themes.

If you're talking about Conchita herself then you have a point as their vocals aren't the greatest ever. Very strained but I do think they sing with passion. There probably is shock value with this song.. A drag queen with a beard actually singing something serious and with meaning. That's going to get Conchita a lot of support.

I'd say the song is strong enough to stand on it's own but Conchita obviously adds a great deal to it in the same way boobs and seduction plays a bit part in Polands entry:lol: Song's need character to be lifted to another level.

If Shiri from Israel 2005 or Zeljko was singing this, everbody wouls praise the song, the lyrics the staging, the outfit....the only critics it would get would be it's a bit old-fashioned

I disagree with you most of the time, but on this.... It's so obvious how DR is pushing Sweden and Austria.

I really was annoying xfacepalm

I asked this in the Israel thread and no one answered but has there always been so many pride flags waving in the audience at past Eurovisions :? I can't recall any last year and this year so far feels more like a pride event then a continent wide music contest xfacepalm

Ok so no victory from the first half possible, but don't be sad Austria: A top10-rank would be a huge success and this is very much possible!

Exactly. This song would be a big nothing if it weren't for the beard. Pretty obvious.

Would people say it's equally memorable without the beard?? xshrug

If it isn't ..... if you tell me who the people are then I might be able to answer you question ... how ever I like her with or with out a beard ..... she is not acting like most men i woman's dresses do.

Read: over hysterical dickheads also called bitches (how I really low bitches who think that just because they are wearing a dress can treat others like shi...)

Conchita seems (without knowing her) like a normal person who just happens to have a beard and were dresses (sometimes)................. I know it's seldom seen .... but I believe this image when I hear what she is saying and in the way she is behaving ....... just like a normal person you actuarially can talk to

So if I am the people ask about, then it doesn't mater if she has a beard or not.

Well I don't think she would have stood a chance in either half. But from thinking she'd struggle to qualify I can see a top-10 placement as pausible.

It's so funny that People only bring up the "it's a song contest, not an appearance contest"-argument if they don't like the song. If they like it, appearance, show and staging is considered a part of the song and is even praised. But when they don't like the song - all of a sudden they all become musical purists. And this is not only true for Austria this year. Same with Elvir Laka (Bosnia 2008), Verka, Silvia Nott, Eric Saade, even Emily de Forest last year, where haters claimed she just won because she sung barefeet. Come on... be realistic: the ESC has ALWAYS been a combination of both looks, songs, gimmicks and staging. That's what it's all about. Reclaiming now that it should JUST be the music is a lame argument. ;)
and for the record: she IS a brilliant singer and Performer

I can see haters pay more attention to the beard than Conchita's fans
