I've never heard of Conchita Wurst. Is she well-known / popular in Austria and neighbouring countries. Of course how well (or badly) she does in next year's ESC semi final, and final if she gets that far, depends very much on the song she has to sing and how well she sings it.

I think Austria can qualify to the final. If the song is good, the juries will love it and place it well, specially because she has a good voice. And if the song is good enough, it can appeal to the televoters, with a little help of the "weird" factor
So I think Austria might very well reach the final in 2014, at least

I'm trans myself, so if there was any transphobia, I'd be on it. But, Conchita is basically a glorified drag act, and does not identify as female as far as I am aware. The act is being presented as a shock act, so no one can complain if people respond to that in a negative way.

I'm just dreading the slow death we'll suffer as Conchita belts out a dreary, dry ballad. Nadine Beiler all over again. Also Conchita's beard makes me feel a bit off, it looks drawn on and seems to be just as QwaarJet says, for shock factor.

I can't say I am very pleased with the choice. People may dress as they like - but I definitely do NOT like Conchitas style. I am no fan of her voice either, I am afraid. So the song needs to be really good if I will be cheering for Austria this year.

I was expecting the worst, but we got the Wurst. I like "That's What I am" in a guilty pleasure type of way. It would be nice if Austria could send something like that
