Re: ARMENIA 2012

Imo it will be Sona Shahgeldyan :)
She was the 1st who said that she wants to go. Winning the New Wave fest is additional reason of course. + she has awesome voice and charisma (esp with ethnic entries).

It won't be Sirusho because her manager denied it + she would be too busy until May.

Hmm, I've been looking at some clips at YT, so far it's been pretty awful imo lol

It's hard to find anything proper though, did she release something?

(my fave part is 2:21) This one was 2 years ago.
Imo, it can be a nice choice. Something in Armenian + not another girl that looks like a magazine's standard )))

Breaking news!
Armenia is not sure that will participate!

The Head of the Armenian delegation Gohar Gasparyan told epress.am that Armenia appearing on the list does not mean the country will necessarily send an entry to arch rival Azerbaijan. “We applied to Eurovision because we are a member of the European Broadcasting Union. But we’re still discussing how safe the participation of our delegation will be in Baku, as well as other matters. We’ll announce whether we’ll participate in the contest or not at a later date

Well at this point they would have to pay the participation fee (plus a cancellation fee if I'm not mistaken).

A song in Armenian would be nice, but although she might be technically a good singer, to me it's way too screamy.

And what's wrong with looking good?

Anyways, with the right song anyone can be good... well ok not anyone, but I guess she could be an ok pick with the right song.

Doubtful. Slovakia tried to pull the same stunt. The EBU got their money so why would they just let a country withdraw and give them back their money?

But weren't some countries on a "waiting list" of some sort that allowed them to pull out a little later than the rest without having to pay the fee? Or maybe I'm just remembering things wrongly.

No, I have never heard of a thing such "waiting list". It was just a back and forth with Slovakia. First they were in, then they were out, then they were and then they wanted to withdraw again after the deadline has passed but once they realized they'd still would have to pay all that money they figured they may as well send an entry.
That is why there was a good chance they would withdraw in 2012 (thank god they didn't).
But in a nutshell, there is not waiting list.

Well, I guess I just remembered things wrongly. It wasn't only Slovakia on this "list" if I remember it correctly, but since no one seems to remember it, I guess I just made that up in my head

I'm thinking you may confuse it with something else, not sure with what though.

But TBH I'm at a point where I don't really care if Armenia participates or not. I want everyone to go but if these rumors are true and they are still considering and will not commit until later then I am not going to hold my breath or worry about it. Just pay your fee and the rest ist up to the broadcaster.

Exactly, it's their loss if they don't want to participate, not ours.

Well, as a fan of Armenian entries, I think it's a loss for Eurovision in that sense.

It's also a loss for them aswell though.

Re: ARMENIA 2012

What I read from Armenian side all this time, I mean their speculation of the participation, I am pretty sure that they will participate. They just need extra "show" telling that we are not sure yet but we put our name on the list. If they sure about security, their second demand will be not to go to the dictatorship country and so on. They put in their press that many countries will not go to Azerbaijan because of dictatorship. Show must go on...

The final say is probably not up to her or the channel, I assume politicians and government are involved in this matter as well.

But I won't miss them if they end up withdrawing, I like the semis to be even.
