An Idea to stop "political" voting

So I had this simple Idea while watching the votes last night that I think could stop everyone moaning about political voting of Eurovision and I wondered what peoples thoughts are.

So from 2019 every single participant has 1 country assigned to it that it can NOT vote for (either in jury or televotes).

It would work something like this:

Moldova - Romania
Greece - Cyprus
Portugal - Spain
Uk - Ireland
Denmark - Sweden
Belarus - Russia
Macedonia - Albania

.......and so on.

(if a country does not qualify for final then it would get another relevant country assigned to it so if for example Ireland didnt qualify then UK would be paired with Australia).

Im not saying this would completely eliminate political voting, for example Sweden may then just give 12 points to Norway or Macedonia may start giving their points to Greece......BUT it will certainly improve the way it is at the moment without a single doubt.

I mean whats the point in jury scoring if countries like Greece and Cyprus are still going to be giving each other 12 points no matter what?

I think if every country has just one country that they are no allowed to vote for based on historical voting it will really improve the competition and the image of Eurovision.

My idea may not be perfect but I think its alot better than what we have at the moment were certain countries are treating this as a "help your cousins" night instead of a song competition.

What do others think?

Curious as to why you think its a bad idea.

You cant possibly enjoy knowing what country is going to get 12 points from Moldova every single year regardless of song quality for example......can you?

People hate when neighbour countries gives scores to each other , but later , if they dont give scores to each other they rage badly.... like yesterday our commentator was in wtf...why Finnish/Lithuanian juries gave us 0. Also dont forget that Artists do promo tours in neighbour countries.

Absolutely not, because what if the country has an amazing song (possibly the winner) but you find you are blocked from voting for it because of previous years?

Also it unfairly penalises countries who have a few friendly Eurovision neighbours, while not hitting those with many at all. For instance this would really hurt countries like the United Kingdom (fairly weakish friendly voting from Australia, Ireland and Malta only) but wouldn't much hurt countries like Russia or Turkey or Sweden (fairly strongish friendly voting from several countries).

blein this is my point, Moldova would not have given you 12 points if Romania had qualified.

I understand what your getting at but at the same time I think the idea of everyone participating having 1 country each would eventually even things out the most.

Lets use an example

Lets say 2019 Ireland bring out the best song by a mile...
Sure it would be annoying not being able to vote for them as I live in the UK, but if my sacrificed Irish vote meant that a country like Greece would open their ears and give the 12 points to Ireland instead of giving it to Cyrus even if they had the worst song that year then I think thats a good thing.

Like i say, I know my idea is not perfect but the neighbour friendly voting is getting far to predictable each year.

Thing is, in that scenario, Greece might give Cyprus it's 12 points, but their 10 points would go to Ireland. And eventually Ireland would still be the winner.
So.. what does it change?

Why not do this.

Every country has the right to name their jury members, BUT they all have to be in 5 different nationalities and can not still vote for the country they represent or for the country they are from.

i read the title and thought "there is no way this idea will be a good idea". i was... well, i am disappointed this was posted, but not surprised.

juries are a lot more political than televoting nowadays anyway. it's not a one country block that will stop juries.

its a fair point but I do think the consistent neighbor voting issue does need to be address as its puts many people off watching as it is so blatant from certain countries. I was looking at a comment section of a popular UK newspaper and there was comments after comments from people complaining that they wont watch it because its the same countries voting for the same countries each year and its "all politics".

We cant pretend its not a problem, certain countries will ONLY stop giving 12 points to their neighbours if they are forced to do so otherwise it simply wont happen regardless of song quality.

It's just for the UK to split up in Wales, Scotland, England and possibly Northern Ireland. Then you'll have neighbours too that can vote for each other :p

Complex and creates even more speculations. "EBU blocked x country's victory on purpose to let y country win."

Keep a record of how each country has voted the last 5 years and sum the points. The top-3 in this list cannot be voted for the current year.
