It was the one that went to selection and won the right to go to Eurovision. Exactly the same as Herciana's song. You can't have one rule for one song and another rule for the other.

They said that it was an English version sent only with ESC in mind but that it was originally in Romanian.

I mean please, listen to that version and tell me it was meant to be in English? You can't be serious.

Anyways this is about Herciana and atleast save ONE entry this year from the EUROphobe/ANGLOphile monster killing this contest's soul!

It took me a while to get use to "O Mie" because I heard the English version first and became attached to venus, mars and the maya

Same here. I argued so much with (the real) A-Lister last year over the song. I fell in love with the english version because of how quirky it was. I loved the lyrics and her accent. The song lost all that in the romanian version. The song didn't conjure up the same images in my mind anymore. I still enjoyed it very much though

Oh please, the song sounded like a slaughtered ballad in English... it wasn't even meant to be a quirky song... in Romanian its true beauty was finally shown!

Would you want "Suus" to be translated to English singing about hot dogs? Would that be "quirky and cool"?

I think the most dreadful is that the most EUROphobic are the ones who are native English speakers... like that's the only thing they're open to to hear their own language?

You said the english version of "Suus" was horrible when I showed it to you before And just how could you!?1 It's so beautiful! And Rona speaks perfect english.. plus the meaning of the song was translated perfectly PLUS the english language allowed Rona to adapt the song into an experimental jazz number (which is her genre of music and passion).

I'm glad she kept it in Albanian but the English version to me is just as poignant and special.


And "O Mie" was more of a typical esc ballad. The quirky english lyrics gave it a bit of an edge and made a difference from the usual love related lyrics.

Judging by their usual entries I don't think they bother very much really

But I don't think it's only them, I see many other people from other countries (my own included) absolutely craving for English lyrics everywhere.
I was going to say I don't understand it, but in a way i do. 95% of all the music one hears is in English, so I guess people like what they're used to.
Still, I would think the ESC was such a good oportunity to vary one's ways a litle. But there you are

The Jazz English version of 'Suus' is great, but I prefer the ESC version. The tragic ballad in Albanian is simply spectacular.

You're right, but I think it's extra sad when native speakers are promoting hard to have only their own language heard.

I mean look at me, I'm totally AGAINST all these Swedish composers taking over ESC, I'm a fan of ESC because of the concept of hearing music and languages I may not hear on a daily basis... that to me is the whole charm with this concept. People who can't appreciate that is maybe rooting for the wrong contest

NO, especially O Mie, please no. I heard the song fist in English just like everybody else and thought nothing of it, I dismissed it as just another ballad. Because of that it was a long time since I went back to it and realised it had been changed to Romanian and I fell in love with it. It was so much more special. English just diidn´t fit.

I'm not a fundamentalist though. I did love Juliana Pasha and Aurela Gace in English and somehow hadn't thought much of them in Albanian

I can understand that. I listen to it with a different pair of ears to what I would the Albanian version. Rona can get away with the english version as she can express herself whilst talking the language very well. I loved watching all her interviews that year. The Albanian version is a lot sadder. You really feel the despair more. The piano chords are less colourful. It's pure melancholy. The English Jazz version is more relaxing (if Suus can ever be described as that) and hopeful. It's such a special, life affirming song. The hairs on my arm still stand on end after hundreds upon hundreds of plays of the song. I'm almost certain "Suus" will never be surpassed for me. Rona probably won't even top it.

Suus and this song have nothing in common. Suus could only have been in Albanian. The English version is fine, but in Albanian it is one the great songs in modern ESC history. This song is just an average ballad and It'll probably sound average whatever language It's in. The song is the problem, not the language.

Hehe I know, I'm joking a bit but still beyond me how anyone would choose the stupidity that the English version was...

Also, all the ones wanting only English and translations... to me it's sorta like dissing other countries' languages... I mean what if someone would say "I don't to hear your language in ESC"...
