For me 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 were MUCH better than last year. But you know, every year it's the same history with the fans... then we start to like the songs and the opinions change

The German phrase schönhören comes to mind which basically means you gradually come to like it by listening to the songs over and over again.

It's something that doesn't really work for me, I either like a song or I don't. To be fair though, I will dance and sing along to them nevertheless. But my actual opinion rarely changes.

It happens every single year, at least wait until we have a few songs left to go before saying if it's a crap year or not

I would say that is a "weak start" since only 9 songs are selected so far... But, yeah, does not look promising at all :?

For the time being, i only like the :cy: entry.

Wow - I'd make exactly the same choices except for possibly France, and I realized just how good this year is with this post.

France really is a tough choice, because it couldn't get any more worse than last year with the last place. Still Moustache is a guilty pleasure of mine and N'oubliez jamais not so much.

The same exact song the Netherlands has sent every year (except the last 2)

and they were all oh so successful..
I cant be bothered with this, I gave my personal taste (which seems to be much more in tune with the majority of people than many people on this forum lol)... I didnt say it for someone to start arguing with me about whether it can win or not.

Pretty much my thoughts. I prefer France and Macedonia's from this year too, but I think Albania and Denmark were better last year by a bit, so we've got the same proportion between years for these entries. For some reason you didn't put down Cyprus and Switzerland - I prefer last year's Swiss entry and (by default) this year's entry from Cyprus, so that leads to a total of 3-7 so far in favour of 2015. Still really let down by all the national finals this morning, though - I must say I preferred last year's NF season somewhat - but as far as actual selected songs go this year is still decently ahead for me so far.

I forgot :ch: - 2014 wins for me, but 2015 is still leading 7 to 3

Not only are most of the 2015 songs better than their 2014 counterparts, but the scenario where all of the songs we've heard don't qualify (except, obviously, for France) is not an unrealistic one, and if it materializes, then that would be the best darn group of non-qualifiers we've ever had.

This is called "Winter Eurovision depression" and by that time every year everything seems bad, the worst ever and so on. Don't worry, it will change like every year :)

It's not that they are bad songs. All of the songs are pretty good. There's 3 songs so far that I really like, that means that I have a connection with and that I care for and that is sort of what I expect and like to hear and listen to. Then there's a few good songs that I like a la Macedonia, Belarus, Switzerland, but they are not my style and then there are four songs that I don't like to listen to the whole way through, because they get so boring and tiring and two of those are Albania's and Malta's song that I don't even want to touch. Last year there was maybe 3 songs out of the 37 that I didn't want to touch or hear so I hope there will be no more songs like this. :?
But yes, the year is not that bad so far. It's just that it's kind of all the same? Female midtempo songs with the same lyrics as many people have said already. It's sooo f-ing tiring to hear these songs and it leaves a bland overall impression. They are good but just not good enough. There's no song yet that really stands out as well, and that's not good, last year there were plenty of those. Some variety would be nice, different kind of songs, better lyrics, more quality, songs with different kind of emotions.. I was in desperate need of something fun for this year, last year it was Pollapönk, thankfully Denmark replenished that need now. And as my preferable style of music is rock, then I expect more rock-ish songs as well. Last year was probably worse than this one will be, perhaps, but every song was different at least. Nothing beats 2012 though, best year hands down. But I agree that there's still a lot of the songs to go and we're only a quarter through, things seem to be going better now and I hope my overall opinion will change later on.

It's still too early to judge the year as a whole, but given the quality of 2014 - overall probably one of the best-ever years for ESC, if not the best - there needs to be a major improvement in the quality of chosen songs for 2015 to be anywhere close to it, regardless of how the currently selected songs are reworked.

Currently, the overhanging theme is blandness. Nothing truly sticks out in one way or the other, it's just a bunch of songs I don't care about. If we're doing 2014/2015 comparisons, only Macedonia has managed to send a better song than 2014, and that's not exactly difficult to accomplish. I really have no clue what sparked such a trend, but of course, there's still hope for this year to be good (and obviously, I hope it will be).
