Now that all the songs have been revealed I can say that I don't think 2015 is a bad year... it's just an incredibly dull one. It's been the worst year for National Final voting also. Absolutely horrific. When I think of all the incredible songs we've lost, and the yawnsome stuff that won over these songs... just makes me want to scream. There is nothing this year that touches me. We lost some achingly beautiful, poignant songs and we lost a lot of fun. It's just ballads and cluttered mid-tempo's we have in abundance now. It all just blends into nothingness.
There are a few positives to be found here. Latvia and Belgium are really offering us something different. These are not typical ESC songs. You've got Finland debuting Punk at the contest. Slovenia is bringing the fun and charm (to a lesser extent Israel also). Malta is giving us that typical, over the top Eurovision power ballad and I love them for it. Then we have Ralph Siegel's special magic that i'm grateful is still around, but other than that.. not really much else here for me to get excited about. Plenty of ok stuff, but I want more than "ok". This is Eurovision! The spark has gone sadly.
