It seems that next year about 40-42 countries will take part.
Yesterday was the deadline for the countries to withdraw.
Still no news from: :mk::md::sm:

I'd be worried that Macedonia might not return. 1 qualification in 10 years, and a 5 year non qualification streak, especially after their absolute tune of a song was eliminated last year.

Moldova will surely not withdraw after coming 3rd last year, will they?

We already have 41 countries in the list,
but I think also :md: will be added soon.
I still don't exclude a participation of :mk: and :kz:.

There's a good chance we will either equal the 43 record in 2018 (hopefully Moldova and Macedonia don't withdraw), or get 44 if Kazakhstan debuts, which judging from EBU's announcement is quite a possibility!

I think we will see both Moldova and Macedonia in, however I highly doubt EBU will allow Kazakhstan, what "announcement" do you refer to?

It would be cool if there would be a record though xcheer

The EBU didn't deny nor confirm Kazkhstan's participation in an annoucement last month. They said they are reviewing the rules about associate members taking part and they might open an exception for Kazakhstan's Khabar Agency like they did to Australia's SBS, due to the interest shown by the broadcaster and the number of years they have broadcasted the contest.

So far they've been vague at best, the rest have been mostly fans and fanpage/communities speculations tbh, reading things into it that was never mentioned by the EBU.

If anything I'm afraid EBU is thinking more how to coup in USA (under similar pretexts as with Australia, although this time it will be laughably obvious).

They did this announcement after being asked about Kazakhstan's possible participation and specifically mentioning Kazakhstan I think!

I am very sad.
I really expected 44 countries.
A new record...
But EBU didn't make it...:(

Did anyone ACTUALLY believe they would invite :kz: though? I've been saying all along that EBU is culturally narrow-minded with a clear political agenda, we don't have to look further than the juries in ESC to get a proof of that sadly.

43 pretty much confirms that all countries that entered last year + Russia coming back, atleast we should be "happy" that no one left it this time around.

EBU doesn't want :kz: to debut.
Sad, but true.

Id be happier if we had exactly the same 42 like last year..
Also a semifinal with 19 is too big.
