As much as I don't like diaspora or political voting, it's not an argument for blocking a country from entering, with that logic we should through out half of the countries. I think it's not fair to block a partly European country because some of us might not like whom they would vote for, as for the voting is also a bit speculative, although you might be right on that.

My preferred solution is to ban Russia from participating. There are enough reasons to justify this. Then the Russian voting block would be gone, just like this year. I'd rather have Kazakhstan than Russia.

Well, there are more "blocks" than this one, and the issue are diaspora voting, not so much the "block" (you honestly think Estonians would blindly support Russia? this is pretty much their enemy, so it all comes down to the Russian diaspora in Estonia...)

I want a ban on Russia, but not because of diaspora or so called "block-voting", but because of reasons discussed previously, but we all know EBU aren't willing to act the way they did in the 90's with Serbia, on contrary they are cosing up to Russia alot, but the day (if it will ever come) Russia doesn't commit war crimes against other ESC members, I think they have their rightful spot in ESC just like any other European country should have (including :kz: and :li:, if they wish to enter). I think we can't ban or block countries because we are unsatisfied with their voting xshrug

Russia will be back next year because the EBU is in love with Russian money and Russia loves to make drama in Eurovision. xshrug
Of course, the problem with diaspora voting is not the reason why Russia should be excluded, although it is a nuisance. What you said is the reason why Russia should be banned. Getting rid of diaspora voting is just an added benefit.

But that's not only yellow and red. So I guess Moldova could only make team with Romania, and Belgium with Germany haha

That yellow makes Lithuania hopeless. Unless they win and keep winning forever on. Careful!

there's yellow in Portugal's flag ! Lithuania fits ! (because Azerbaijan is doomed if we need the exact same colour :D)

besides that, I talked - a little - by mail with the guy that's in charge of entertainment for Luxembourg and they're not really in the mood nor wanting to do ESC.

Please point out some validation for Israel bringing politics into the context?, in fact I think they've been pretty apolitical in this apart for some peace songs, but if that's politics then half of the contestants if not all should be withdrawing, and certainly personal taste isn't really a good argument for wanting a country to get withdrawn, there are many countries that never really sent any entries I like for instance, I still want them to remain in the contest regardless.

Israel is a crucial part of the Eurovision family and has been for 40 years including three wins , 2 runner-ups and 13 top 10's, it's certainly "in fashion" by certain groups in Europe to bring political points in regards to Israel, but that's not Israel bringing politics into it, more their loathers, but even with highly anti-Israeli countries such as Sweden (as of nowadays) and Ireland, thankfully in regards to Israel the politics haven't been very apparent from any sides of the spectrum (bar some questionable voting, but that's about it).

Who do we say is a crucial part or not then? That suggests some are more disposable. I'm not sure how relevant results are when that that tends to reflect fashion more than quality. The Big Five put more money into Eurovision and are in that sense more important.

I don't think you can say Russia putting a peace song in is political and Israel after bombing arabs putting in a peace duet with an arab singer wasn't. The Israeli broadcaster entered on the back of the arab war in the early 70s, most likely to promote Israel at that time as much as anything.

The reason the Israeli broadcaster pulled out was because of political reasons, the Israeli government wanting to control new coverage on its channels.

I'm not that fussed if they are in it or not, but to say politics and wars haven't been involved with Eurovision over the years is wrong. And you can't simply blame it on those countries who pulled out over Israel.

What annoys me though is to suggest they can open up a loophole of not having a news service on the new channel (the government controlling information) just for the sake of a song contest.

All countries bring their part to ESC, when did I say they didn't? Point made was that Israel has a long history with ESC unlike many others, hence the "crucial" comment. It doesn't mean that others are disposable though, afterall it was you that proposed a country should be thrown out no? We get it, you don't like Israel for whatever reasons... very unoriginal in this time when it's "in fashion" to be anti-Israel, but each to their own. Is your disliking of a country enough argument for having them "banned" from ESC though?

No, Israel didn't bring "politics" to the contest any way more than many others did and they played by the rules as most countries (no voting scandals, no corruption etc. as we've seen by other countries). As for peace songs, I never liked them regardless who sent them, but if that's what you refer to as "politics" then half of the countries should get thrown out from the contest. Surely peace songs can be considered "political" (depending on the context of course), I never questioned that, however it's not against the rules (if it doesn't break the rules in the lyrical/visual presentation of course).

All public broadcasters are political entities, if you want only countries that have no politicized news to be allowed in ESC we would end up with 0 countries, and in some countries the connection to the regimes and the blatant politicization is undoubted (Russia, Belarus are obvious examples here, but it's there in most countries, more or less subtle).

I'm in general really impressed with delegation behavior so far this season. :cz: and :me:, hardly powerhouses, have both had high-ranking officials speak publicly about taking NQs in stride and recognizing that Eurovision is a process and a promotional opportunity. Hoping they set an example for some of the flagging countries who we're still waiting to hear from :D

According to Eurovision World website, the following 36 countries have expressed their interest for participation in ESC 2018:

Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom.

I thought the official deadline for broadcasters to submit their intention to participate was yesterday (Friday 15 September 2017). At this rate there could be fewer countries next year, e.g. I can't see Albania, Hungary, FYR Macedonia or Montenegro (all of which were in ESC 2017) on the list. Israel is a tricky one, now that the IBA has closed will their replacement broadcaster get EBU membership in time for participation in 2018?

Just because some countries haven't publicly announced that they will take part, it doesn't mean that they haven't already applied with the EBU.
Hungary almost certainly won't withdraw after a top ten and 7 years of qualifying to the final in a row. Montenegro's CEO has said that the broadcaster mast take not qualifying well and must keep on competing to promote the country on an European stage. Albania and Macedonia are both taking part in Junior Eurovision, so they're probably not withdrawng from the main contest. I think there might be just one country in danger, and that's San Marino.

The final auditions have already been held in the middle of August.

I'm not gonna mention IPBC-EBU deal for 2018 because the real media could have contacted the KAN 11, Mako or OGAE or other fans (שָׁלוֹם" נוּרִית" :D), or whatever

Yeah, this has all been reported for the last summer. I'm so tired of mentioning it in this forum that I even forgot to include it in my reply
