How are people reacting on your countries?
In Portugal, even though we gave Austria 12, the comments on news articles and stuff are mostly completely ridiculous.

In Greece despite the fact that we gave :12: to Conchita people still make stupid comments about her look...:? At least the admit that it is a masterpiece and that Conchita is an excellent singer

Here all are laughing for the winner and compare it to Buranovskie Babushki, and that ESC becomes a circus and pointless for REAL artists....

The song should always be bigger than statements that artists are trying to make. Sadly, I think everyone got carried away with all of the image hype.

Agree, I even felt myself being carried away a bit with because of the that she was making. After the final and time to reflect, I preferred Austria's song because the country type that The Netherlands has just doesn't do it for me. However I felt the Netherlands more deserving and I felt they put on a greater show, while Austria's relied a lot on the lighting and background.

Compare this B.B. for which reason? xshrug It is pointless. Well Eurovision became circus now that Conchita won, but at 2007-2010 when the entries brought circus in the stage wasn't? But I suppose that it wasn't for Serbia cause did well...

They literally turned Eurovision into X-Factor  xfaint

The whole Eurovision was basically one big sob story profile for Conchita and people fell for it xfacepalm

Well, it's come full circle then, since juries came back it's been less focus on songs and less focus on European representation, but wailing Americanized ballads have been favored just like some sort of Idol/X-factor, I guess now with the persona cult it's getting there finally and we have created The Voice of Europe.

R.I.P. Eurovision xcry

Yes, we all fell for it hook, line and sinker. I didn't even vote for Austria, but out of the songs that had a chance of victory, this was my favourite. I'd like to think most of us here are big enough ESC fans to not be taken in by hype and judge the song on It's merit. And in that respect, I feel "Rise Like A Phoenix" holds up to that. It's a very good song. Not my absolute favourite, but a worthy winner. I don't really think there is any more to that. I can't stop people believing there is some kind of conspiracy and that "the beard factor" won Conchita the contest, but it sounds like complete rubbish to me.

I'd also like to add that Eurovision is in great health, and that reports of it's death are greatly exaggerated. It's ratings in the UK were the 2nd highest in a decade.

It's more like The Image of Europe cause I don't think it was the voice that got Conchita top marks from the jury or televote ;)

If it was just a normal trans person (without the beard!) like Dana International singing this would they have pulled out all the stops they did for Conchita :? I doubt it xshrug

Why are people so against others judging stage performances, lighting etc. on a TV show? Listen to the final on the radio if that's what you want :)

If that was true, then why would Austria without juries and just by televote have ended with even 312 points instead of 290?
