Re: YAPONESIA: Here come the 60s

NSC 60

The Beatles - ABBEY ROAD MEDLEY
NSC 60 marks a new era for NSC. We've officially surpassed the Eurovision Song Contest, we have more editions than we have current nations, and since Yaponesia's debut, there have been ten times more editions.

But in 60 years of main NSC history, and 3.5 years of real history, arguably the biggest band in the history of the 20th century has yet to make an appearance. We last saw them all for Giggshood in the NSC 60's spinoff, but now they're back for the NSC 60's decade... meet the Beatles.

John Lennon previously made a solo appearance for Swelatie in NSC 14 with 'Imagine', and here joins Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. We whizz ahead now to 1969, where the band releases their penultimate album, Abbey Road, upon which we find Yaponesia's NSC 60 entry, comprising the final nine songs of the album, known together as the Abbey Road Medley.

A guide to the breakdown of the medley:
1. YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY [4:02]
2. SUN KING [2:26]
3. MEAN MR. MUSTARD [1:06]
4. POLYTHENE PAM [1:12]
5. SHE CAME IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW [1:57]
6. GOLDEN SLUMBERS [1:31]
7. CARRY THAT WEIGHT [1:36]
8. THE END [2:20]
9. HER MAJESTY [0:23]

From a personal perspective, it might be surprising to see Yaponesia send such a commercially successful band xD But if there's any artist who reminds me of my childhood, then it's definitely the Beatles, and Abbey Road was also my favourite album
Just this summer, I went to the Mathew Street free festival in Liverpool, where there were many Beatles cover bands, and I also got to see the Bootleg Beatles, who are a lookalike band, so that was all good fun in reviving interest, as well as the Beatles Rock Band game where the video for this entry comes from ^^

So yeah, this one's an entry from the heart, and the first time since NSC 42 that I've sent an entry known from before I joined NSC! :p Despite both the record-breaking length of the song, and the record-breaking length of this essay, I hope you enjoy Yaponesia's NSC 60 entry! xcheer1

A musical analysis of the medley; I thought this was interesting:

LYRICS

You Never Give Me Your Money:
You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper
And in the middle of negotiations
You break down

I never give you my number
I only give you my situation
And in the middle of investigation
I break down

Out of college, money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling
Nowhere to go

One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we'll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true today
Came true today
Came true today (yes it did)

One two three four five six seven,
All good children go to Heaven
Sun King:
Here comes the sun king
Here comes the sun king
Everybody's laughing
Everybody's happy
Here comes the sun king

Quando paramucho mi amore de felice corazon
Mundo paparazzi mi amore chica ferdy parasol
Cuesto obrigado tanta mucho que can eat it carousel
Mean Mr. Mustard:
Mean Mister Mustard sleeps in the park
Shaves in the dark trying to save paper
Sleeps in a hole in the road
Saving up to buy some clothes
Keeps a ten-bob note up his nose
Such a mean old man
Such a mean old man

His sister Pam works in a shop
She never stops, she's a go-getter
Takes him out to look at the queen
Only place that he's ever been
Always shouts out something obscene
Such a dirty old man
Dirty old man
Polythene Pam:
Well you should see Polythene Pam
She's so good-looking but she looks like a man
Well you should see her in drag dressed in her polythene bag
Yes you should see Polythene Pam
Yeah yeah yeah

Get a dose of her in jackboots and kilt
She's killer-diller when she's dressed to the hilt
She's the kind of a girl that makes the "News of the World"
Yes you could say she was attractively built
Yeah yeah yeah
She Came In Through the Bathroom Window:
She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
But now she sucks her thumb and wanders
By the banks of her own lagoon

Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?
Sunday's on the phone to Monday,
Tuesday's on the phone to me

She said she'd always been a dancer
She worked at fifteen clubs a day
And though she thought I knew the answer
Well I knew what I could not say

And so I quit the police department
And got myself a steady job
And though she tried her best to help me
She could steal but she could not rob

Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?
Sunday's on the phone to Monday,
Tuesday's on the phone to me
Oh yeah
Golden Slumbers:
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby

Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby

Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
Carry That Weight:
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time

I never give you my pillow
I only send you my invitations
And in the middle of the celebrations
I break down

Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
The End:
Oh yeah
All right
Are you going to be in my dreams
Tonight?

(Love you, love you)
[McCartney solo]
[Harrison solo]
[Lennon solo]

And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to
the love you make.

...
Her Majesty:
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah,
Someday I'm going to make her mine

Re: YAPONESIA: Into the 60s

For now, I'm still deciding whether to go for the whole thing, or just the final part (from Golden Slumbers) :p
I mean the whole thing is an epic classic for me, but I don't want to be too cruel to other NSCers xD And it's a medley after all, so you can see clearly how easy it is to separate into its different parts :D

Opinions on that are welcome ^^

Re: YAPONESIA: Into the 60s

What the hell is this...

Only the most epic band in history with their most epic medley? ^^
But yeah, this is what I'm having trouble deciding, as I can see some people can't take the full 16-minute medley seriously xD
And for a medley, the points where one part ends and the next begins are quite defined, so it wouldn't be hard to just pick one out :p

I'll ask around I guess :D

Re: YAPONESIA: Into the 60s

What you would rather send is imperative :p If you prefer the full version then you should send it no matter what other people think of it ^^

Re: YAPONESIA: Here come the 60s

Hm, was Strawberry Fields Forever the Giggshood one? It seems like so much longer ago than the 60s spinoff xD Btw, good choice going for the 16-minute supersong :p

Re: YAPONESIA: Here come the 60s

Giggshood sent the big one, Yellow Submarine xD And 60s was three summers ago now, believe it or not o.o Time flies xD
Thanks everyone for support in NSC 60 :D We got quite a few more points than we expected for a 16-minute medley, so thank you very much! xcheer1

Anyway, the main reason I'm posting here is to announce the launch of the Yaponesian Archive thread in the Private Forum
http://www.esctodayforum.com/showthread.php?4937-YAPONESIA-Archive-amp-Collections
I'll be updating regularly with more old entries, and mp3 collections! :D

Re: YAPONESIA: NSC 61 ~ "Don't Look Back L/XI"

NSC 61

61Echobellyold.png

DON'T LOOK BACK LXI

50 editions ago, Yaponesia hosted their very first full NF. Three artists participated, but only one moved on to compete in NSC 11. Over the years, there has been much speculation over the remaining two, and now, fifty editions on, Yaponesia has invited one back.

As we enter the NSC 60s, Yaponesia will embark on a new series of entries, on the theme of history. We will begin by inviting National Final artists from our first NFs for a second chance with new songs, starting with this band from our NSC 11 NF.

As long as we don't look back in anger, we can still look back in history...

Echobelly
KALI YUGA

The extended album version of our NSC 61 entry; remember our real video is linked below:

Echobelly - KALI YUGA

In NSC 11, we hosted an NF for three artists with two songs each. Here, Britpop band Echobelly placed 2nd and last, with their songs 'King of the Kerb' and 'Dark Therapy'. 'King of the Kerb' tried again at the NSC 15 second-chance NF and finished 3rd.

Now, Echobelly have returned to NSC 61 in Berceniland, with an internal attempt. Their song is the more recent 'Kali Yuga' from 2001, meaning the age of Kali, the final stage of the Yuga cycle in Indian scripture. Echobelly are Glenn Johansson, Andy Henderson, Debbie Smith, Alex Keyser and singer Sonya Madan.

LYRICS

(It is the western way...)
(Going down)

Ahhhh, I...

Gonna do what we do together
We're gonna find out
What we do to ourselves
How we want it to be
And we shoot to the centre
Of our own shores
For a motionless core
On the western front

I look round at what i see
This ain't where I wanna be
Looking for some kind of plan
Ohh yes I am

Ahhhh, I
I'm not going down
Ahhhh, I
I'm not going down

Easing through this phase together
We're gonna do all
To return to the flow
And the rest will fall
And the rest will fall

I look round at what i see
This ain't where I wanna be
Looking for the word at hand
Ohh yes I am

Ahhhh, I
I'm not going down
Ahhhh, I
I'm not going down

Say yes! Say yes!
Say yes! Say yes!

Say ahhhh, I
I'm not going down
Ahhhh, I
I'm not going down

Ahhhh, I...
I'm not going down

Hm, i'm still pretty sure Strawberry Fields Forever was sent to a spinoff, sometime before the 60s spinoff. I'll try to find out :p

EDIT: No luck, perhaps an NF?

Re: YAPONESIA: NSC 62 ~ "Don't Look Back L/XII"

NSC 62

62DoubleFacedEelsold.png

DON'T LOOK BACK LXII

Back in NSC 12, Yaponesia was keen to show its internationally diversity, hosting the NSC 12 NF featuring six rare languages for NSC.

Interestingly, starting with the Korean winner, Yaponesia has succeeded in representing each of the featured languages, continuing with Japanese in NSC 16, Punjabi in NSC 17, Lithuanian in NSC 22 and Hindi in NSC 46. Now, for NSC 62, we finish off with Latvian...

Double Faced Eels
:lv: IF IT'S NOT :lv:
JA TĀ NAV

LIFE OF DFE: An in-studio sneak peek behind the scenes, as Double Faced Eels record 'Ja tā nav'. Click the link below for the actual song:

Double Faced Eels - JA TĀ NAV (If It's Not)
Continuing with our repeat of Yapo history, NSC 12's NF brought us songs from all over the world. Finishing in a very sad dead last place was Latvian rock band Double Faced Eels, with their song Prasīt Aizmirsto. NSC 62 is here to give this team of four: Marka, Chikys, Reinis and Pauls; a very deserved second chance in Xorientia.

NSC 62 comes at an all-time low for Yaponesia. Since our 50th anniversary in NSC 56 we've had 5 consecutive non-qualifications, accompanied by strings of bad luck, from losing our desired entries and missing finals by the smallest of margins, to watching our favourites flop, while our very own past artists and spinoff entries reach the top places we've always coveted.. for other nations xD

So, let's not turn in to the unlucky nation, and hope NSC 62 brings us our best result yet! xcheer1 :p

LYRICS

Jo ātrāk pasauli griež == The faster the world spins
Jo grūtāk ir stāvēt uz tās == The harder it is to stand
Un galvā - gribi vai nē == And in your head, like it or not
Sagriežās, sagriežās, sagriežās un viss jūk == Everything spins, spins, spins
Vēl ātrāk šodien un rīt == Even faster, today and tomorrow
Nevar ārā izkāpt, ja grib == You can't get off, if you want to
Šai zemes karuselī == This Earth carousel
Jāgriežās, jāgriežās, jāgriežās, kamēr krīt == Until the end, spins, spins, spins

Ja tā nav, ja tā nav, ja tā vienkārši nav == If it's not, if it's not, if it's just not
Ja ar mums tikai kāds jokojās == If we're only having a joke
Ja tā nav, ja tā nav, ja tā vienkārši nav == If it's not, if it's not, if it's just not
Kāpēc vairāk neviens nesmejās == Why is no-one laughing anymore?

Man, man vajag, vajag == I, I need, need
Man vajag padomāt == I need to think
Man, man vajag, vajag == I, I need, need
Vai man vai vajag tā == Whether I need it

Nav vairs kad domāt kaut ko == There is no time to think about anything
Visu laiku ir jārinko == Time is all in a ring
Un bail, ka šeit vairs neviens ne joko == And I'm afraid that no-one here is joking
Ne joko, ne joko, ne joko! == Not joking, not joking, not joking!

Jē jē - man jāpadomā == Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking
Jē jē - jā jāpadomā == Yeah, yeah, yes I'm thinking
Jē jē - man jāpadomā == Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking
Jē jēēē! == Yeah yeahhh!

Vai tas ir joks? Vai te kāds joko? == Is it a joke? Is this a joke?

Jē jē - man jāpadomā == Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking
Jē jē - jā jāpadomā == Yeah, yeah, yes I'm thinking
Jē jē - man jāpadomā == Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking
Jē jēēē! == Yeah yeahhh!
