Well suRie started to perform and I was like jeez this is dreadful so I went to get food, come back in and the crowd's screaming like Mariah's just been on stage or something. I was like God I must have missed something really good so I watch it again and I'm like "am I missing somethin?!" o_O

But I was like okay okay I get it maybe it's just differing music taste but then I've seen the "die-hards" (as I call them ) saying stuff like "SuRie is fast becoming my favourite personality ever" totally 100% serious. I'm like waat... xcrazy

Her performance changed the crowd's perceptions. They didn't really care much before it. And then they sided with her, as did the voters. And actually, her personality is really good. Quirky, doesn't take herself seriously but takes Eurovision seriously. Regardless of opinions of the song, she will be a good representative for the UK.

In addition to that Asanda produced a car crash vocal performance and a messy stage routine, it poured cold water over people's hopes and expectations. Then SuRie came across as very sweet in the introduction, walked on stage, performed like a professional and it lifted the crowd out of their disappointment and she fully deserved to win, even if it may be a poisoned chalice representing the UK these days. Best of luck.to her.

Wow first time posting, let's hope this is g'un...

I know Storm is getting mixed reviews, but I actually think we've selected a bit of dark horse (left-hand side of the board). However, that is only contingent on staging and what the revamp brings. It's got a good foundation to work with.

Also in it's favour is it's a bit of an earworm. It wasn't my favourite, hell it wasn't even my top 3 as Legends, Crazy and You were ahead in my view, but I found myself unexpectedly singing the tune/lyrics of the chorus literally 48 hours after the studio track was released and after only hearing it twice on the day of release. Plus, since the final I continue myself unexpectedly singing it and that's a good sign for me as I've only experienced that a few times with other Eurovision songs, like Hey Mamma, If Love Was a Crime and older songs like Ooh Aah Just a Little Bit.

But speaking of revamp...

Included in the photo are the 3 songwriters of Storm, could this mean some lyric and music changes as well as a tweaked arrangement? I'm actually in favour of tweaking the chorus and bridge lyrically to make it more distinct and less repetitive.

YouTube Stats Time!

I have done this for the last few years, how do the YouTube stats for our entry compare to other recent entries, based on number of views roughly a week after they were picked, I have also looked up pre 2013 view counts on wayback machine:

BBC YouTube Channel
Bonnie Tyler (2013) - 466,891
Lucie Jones (2017) - 296,779
Jade Ewen (2009) - 292,298 #
Molly Smitten-Downes (2014) - 239,406
SuRie (2018) - 237,464
Electro Velvet (2015) - 227,671
Joe & Jake (2016) - 160,891
Engelbert Humperdinck (2012) - 104,105 *
Andy Abraham (2008) - 85,634 #

No data available for Blue or Josh Dubovie

*after 5 days
#after 6 days

Eurovision YouTube Channel
Electro Velvet (2015) - 753,591
Engelbert Humperdinck (2012) - 287,117
Bonnie Tyler (2013) - 170,735 @
Molly Smitten-Downes (2014) - 169,131
SuRie (2018) - 106,729
Lucie Jones (2017) - 66,739

Other recent entries did not have data available, were not uploaded within 7 days of the UK selection, or in the case of Andy Abraham, not uploaded at all.

@ after 8 days

So SuRie is in the middle of other recent entries on the BBC channel, but a long way behind some of the others on the Eurovision channel.

If anyone happens to have more accurate youtube counts for any of these, let me know and I can add to the data!

Visually, she looks the same as the French singer this year. If some voters will confuse France and UK, maybe she has a chance after all. xyaay

Same for me. First I was quite disappointed about "Legends" or "Feel The Love" not winning, but "Storm" climbed up in my ranking the last week.

I assume for a lot of fans, the bitterness of Asanda not winning will die down and they will actually look at this song and performance objectively.

I wasn't talking bout you specifically. Just there in general is a backtrack on the hatred, now that they have got over the Asanda defeat.

So Ed Sheeran has just come out saying he wants to pen the Eurovision entry. Why didn't you mention this before we selected SuRie, honey?

Even the BBC are reporting it. xcrazy BBC better be all over this for 2019, I'm not his biggest fan but he can for sure do a lot better than what we have atm. It's a shame he come out and also said the typical "they don't want us to win bla bla".

But I don't think the rest of Europe wants England to win because of history and stuff."

Time to start appreciating "That sounds good to me"
