Here is my Reaction video, please don't hate (too much)

Was good to watch your review. I've seen far too many people (not on this forum) who completely tore into the songs so it's refreshing to see a neutral opinion. I don't like You at all but I think it could be a wise choice to go for, albeit super risky. Legends is my favourite as well, but will need a recap.

Why, thank you. It's an improvement though I do expect more from the BBC. But as long as they are putting some effort into it, being overly critical is counter-productive. Although I prefer the term objective as far as my approach is concerned, not technically neutral but I get your point. As I said in the video, YOU is polarizing and I totally get why people wouldn't like it. We have to wait and see how Legend will come across live. Right now, that's the song to beat.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

My full ranking:

1. Asanda - Legends
2. Goldstone - I Feel The Love
3. RAYA - Crazy
4. SuRie - Storm
5. Liam Tamne - Astronaut
6. Jaz Ellington - You

Asanda is the real standout here. I've wanted the UK to send something upbeat, contemporary, and fresh for years, and this could finally be the opportunity! The production of 'Legends' needs a revamp (as with every other song here), but I feel like once that is done we could really have a chance at a high placing in Lisbon. I soooo hope we don't mess this up! xpray

I also love Goldstone's song and would support that as well should it be chosen as our entry. However, I do agree with the other comments here about the chorus losing what the verses set up. I kinda feel as though the song goes from sassy RnB pop in the verses, to almost Wiktoria-style country pop in the chorus but with added cheese. Meh, I love it nonetheless.

SuRie and RAYA are also nice, the other two aren't even worth discussing.

I think "Legends" could do very very well in Eurovision. "You" could do something very special but its kind of a risk... but it could be worth the risk

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

I assume I already know the answer to this but....

Will the BBC use the usual pathetic attempt at results like they have in previous years? or will they actually do something where we get some actual results?

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Some quick thoughts...

Asanda - Legends
Definitely the stand-out here - I'd be surprised if we don't send this to be honest, guess it'll all come down to the performance but this is upbeat, sassy and Asanda has a great tone that should help her stand out. Synths need some serious updating if it's chosen, but I'm excited to see this one!

Raya - Crazy
This girl sounds like she's trying to channel a Dua Lipa-style vibe but I don't think the song quite matches that promise. It's fun and the bridge is really catchy for me, but the chorus is very repetitive and doesn't really go anywhere. Still think this is my second favourite at the moment, but only time will tell if it has any lasting appeal.

Liam Tamne - Astronaut
This is obviously the Ed Sheerany song that Mans hinted at, but I'm actually quite surprised by how good this one gets after the fairly generic verse. It has a nice progression through the bridge into the chorus, with the only question mark for me being if Liam's vocals will be able to hold up to such a speedy chorus with very little room for breathing and a more challenging vocal range. Still, I enjoy this one and it's definitely the best of the boys!

Goldstone - I Feel The Love
Hello first album Little Mix - it's lovely to hear you again! I cannot hear anything else but an early Little Mix album track when I hear this, and while that's not a bad thing - LM had a great debut album - I fear that this has been left in the past and sounds a little dated. It could be saved with a great performance but it's probably going to finish up in the bottom 2.

SuRie - Storm
This is like an old-style UK Eurovision song with a small touch of Scandi-pop but crucially I think it sadly misses an outstanding vocalist to really punch the message home. The chorus melody is nice, but it all sounds like it's missing a crucial ingredient to give it that winning sound.

Jaz Ellington - You
I really don't like this one at all. It's trying too hard to be moody and arty and I don't think it comes off well with such stylish, modern and sassy competition here. Of course, that could help it stand out to some, but for me it would be the wrong way to go as I really struggleto remember any hooks from this track at all.

I have a clear favourite in this NF, "Legends". I don't love it, but it's catchy and to me it's the only one that has potential.
"Storm" was promising but the chorus is weak while "Astronaut" is too predictable (and "You" is not my cup of tea either).

What is up with these lyrics?

BBC, stop sending what you think a Eurovision winner sounds like, and just send songs, honest, actual attempts.

It's clear that these artists were selected first, then (randomly?) paired with these songs. Some of them (Goldstone, Asanda, Raya) vocally go beyond the songs themselves.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Most of these songs are very formulaic radio pop, and mediocre/bland ones at that. I'm glad we're in the 21st century with most of these songs, but it's still not enough to leave an impression at Eurovision, I think. "You" is the only one I like and even love xheart It feels really authentic and he has a great voice. Other than that, would love to see the girlband represent UK , "Crazy" i could get behind as well, it has great energy, and I get the appeal with Asanda, but it doesn't really appeal to me personally... "Astronaut" and "Storm" are completely mediocre to me. Would really love Jaz to win... the rest kind of melt into one for me lol, I'll have to see the performances, I guess. All in all the selection this year feels really... plastic. I'm glad they're keeping it going and objectively it is better than last year, but they still have a way to go...

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Last night I watched the preview videos of the six Eurovision: You Decide 2018 entries online. Here's my opinion on them so far:

Goldstone 'I Feel The Love'
Undeniably a modern song, and the line "I Feel The Love" is catchy. The song style is not really my taste, but no doubt some might like it.

Asanda 'Legends'
Another modern song, but also not my style of song.

RAYA 'Crazy'
Not bad, I think I prefer this song compared to the two aforementioned ones. The line "Oooh ah you're on my mind" is quite catchy as a hook, but I'm not convinced it's as strong as "We are the heroes of our time", "Yaşlığıma toyalmadım", or "Thunder and lightning, it's getting exciting" other countries have offered in recent years.

Liam Tamne 'Astronaut'
Quite a reasonable ballad, but I'm not sure this has the power to stand out from other songs at Eurovision.

Jaz Ellington 'You'
Another ballad, this one seems like a throwback to yesteryear to me. Jaz has quite a nice voice, but whether or not this song could succeed at Eurovision is questionable.

SuRie 'Storm'
Not bad a song, the chorus is quite catchy, but again I have my doubts over how this will fare at Eurovision.

Well, those are the six UK hopefuls. Quite frankly I'm not overly keen on any of them, and it looks like UK viewers will be picking the least worst of a disappointing bunch. Put it this way, I'm not convinced any of these could get the UK into the top ten at this year's ESC Grand Final.

After repeatedly listening to it we have to pick Legends. My, what a revelation in a BBC-picked national selection.
