I seem to recall the very first post you typed after this song was presented was "we're gonna win". What has changed since then for you to lower your expectations continually, preparing for what seems like the inevitable bottom 5 result? You can't dress it up, If UK do as badly as predicted then it is a disaster. It cannot be brushed under the rug with a "they tried their best" excuse. Everyone tries their best. You need more than that to do well. I don't particularly blame the singers. They aren't fantastic, but will vocally be fine on Saturday. I blame whoever thought a song this dated and cheesy could do anything at Eurovision 2015. Scooch was the fault of the British public, but the BBC are to blame for this mess.
Oh fgs I said that once when the song had just been released or is it illegal to get excited about things these days?

I certainly believe it can reach the top 10, and it deserves to reach top 10. If it doesn't? So what. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the song, singers or the BBC. There are 27 competing nations, some are going to do well and some are going to fail.

I understand you liked Scooch, but the bottom line is that very few others did and they paid for it with a dreadful result. There is no logical reason to suggest this will fare any different on Saturday, especially with a first half draw. It has the exact same vibes for me.
Except Scooch failed because of corrupt voting, nothing to do with the song. I will remind you that they were the first British act to pick up a 12 points in a decade, and they are the only Eurovision act to have reached top 5 in the charts any time recently.

I can't believe it was only a year ago when on Saturday night I was cheering on the UK to what I hoped was a victory, for actually bringing a good song.
The result never happened, but at least things were respectable. I feel the UK will be the laughing stock of European TV viewers when they see this. It sucks to see that for any country.
Okay, so you agree with me that the quality of the song often doesnt have much bearing on the results. Good.

I know that my musical taste is out of sync with most people on here, but I take comfort from the fact that they spend most of the Eurovision season moaning about "real music" getting eliminated. So hopefully, the public will be in tune with me ;)

I seem to recall every post of yours gleefully willing this...

Because I think it's the worst entry this year. I think it's so bad it deserves to come bottom 5. It's not the first time I've felt this way about entries from countries. I'm not willing it come last for any reasons apart from that fact I actively hate this song.

That's fair enough, but coming in with your hatred of it every time the UK is mentioned does earn you a reputation of someone who's made their mind up and not willing to listen to the other side/other people's views. Which isn't what some people want on an online forum for discussing Eurovision...:p

No, I would say that you're entitled to your opinion regarding the song et al, it's just the wrong one ^^

So what the hell is the surprise :?

2 days before the jury performance and all we have seen are clothes that light up, which has not been new or unseen for years now. BBC need a new PR agent

We're all addicted. We enjoy being depressed. That way, we'll see the inevitable 20th as being a positive and strong result! :)

Something that i've found interesting, is that ITV have been advertising eurovision quite a bit - not directly advertising it, but talking almost non stop about it across the morning shows and having a eurovision special on tomorrows talk show. They seem so much more interested than the BBC.

If they apply for the job, EBU should not pass the opportunity.

If the BBC were to give it up one day. xprayxprayxprayxpray Then both ITV & Channel 4 would be probably ready to jump in and take it. ITV would probably get it though because Channel 4 is a private channel and not as rich. Then we would all enjoy Simon Cowell becoming the new Bjorkman.

I wonder if that might mean the for contest seeing more of the UK music industry or rather being busted. Probably both.

I hope the BBC doesn't give it up, but then again if that's the price we have to pay to get a better selection procedure, then maybe it is worth paying.

TBH, like I've said it would be Simon Cowell dominated, so I would imagine the x Factor being altered into a format suitable for a national selection. It's already a successful stand alone show, so they wont worry about viewer figures. I think it would be A LOT more representative of our music industry, but also still rather limited in the type of songs we send.

The only good thing with the BBC is no advert breaks.

edit: I'm willing to give up mostly shitty interval acts for an advert break, if it means we get better entries.

I don't know if Cowell would dominate. He would probably try. But I see him as the UK version of Stefan Raab, and those types can deal very well with the common folks, but not so much with the upper echelons. Raab tried that and failed. Björkman is more the politician type.

Simon Cowell is not the answer, sorry he can't even find an original song for the winners to sing.
Interestingly, Pete Waterman was interviewed this morning on Radio 2. he said that the UK can't compete with the others. That they put so much money into their efforts whereas BBC put in about £3000 for his entry. He criticised radio stations for not promoting the songs and that record companies here were not interested in promoting our entries. He said it was all wonderful and friendly leading up to the contest, but afterwards people get dropped like a stone and left alone and ignored by all the new found "friends"

Weirdly I was also thinking just this morning if only ITV was in charge of the UK Eurovision entry instead of BBC. I think the time's come for the BBC to give Eurovision up imo, ITV would put so much more effort into it and spend more money on our entries.
