Oh, that's not politics. I'm simply stating fact. I hate this entry, and it's in no way related to my politics. Slej.
You started on about Yes & the SNP...

but while we're at it, both those causes lost... just like the anti-Electro Velvet cause will lose too ;)

Tbh with a song like this the more...energetic the performance the better. People will either like the song/style and get it or hate and and switch over. There's negative reviews, yes, but there's also plenty of comments about it being a guilty pleasure (it's even some people's favourite!) which is better than the beige bland and boring middle of the road songs we used to send that scored 0.

I'm not expecting them to get more than say 5 points from any country (except the English speaking ones), but there is a chance they'll get a few points here and there to get a fair left side finish, which would be great for a song that is different from any other Eurovision song (and doesn't rip off David Guetta, The Common Linnets, Conchitta, Lorde or any respectable waffle-producing establishments...).

No politics outside the politics section...

Good luck with that, everything about your entry screams 'We'll be lucky to get 26th'

It's your entry too you know ;)

And your entire profile screams "I'm here to be #edgy about #independance #freescotland...why else would you pic of Sturgeon?"

Unless of course, you're not even from Scotland...

So you're a 'Wild person...who voted Yes and for the SNP'
Yet you refer to both Scotland and UK as an outside entity
But you profile says you live in Glasgow, Scotland
And now you say you live in Nigeria?

#confused #whatsNSC?

Gee, I wonder where the cross comes from...

The Republic of Genoa? But I'll assume you meant England. The country that willingly! went into union with Scotland because Scotland went bankrupt trying to start it's own empire? The country that has put with 400+ years of being blamed for everything wrong with the UK, Europe the World. The country that is more the happy to share it's success and pain with the poorest parts of this nation without throwing it's toys out of the pram and shouting 'mine, mine, mine'.

And yet you don't hear them moaning over a flag do you...

You two are about the only exceptions to the rule ;)

You can be realistic without being downright depressing and pessimistic. I know some people want Electro Velvet to fail because they seem to have a personal grudge against 1) the UK 2) the BBC 3) EV/this kind of music.

Im optimistic and realistic. Id LOVE for us to win with this, I doubt we will send a song again that I love quite so much. But I know we're not going to. I think around 10th is a realistic chance given the type of songs that have come around that position in the past, but at the same time if we don't pick up points and do come 27th, so what? EV tried their best and Eurovision's all about the fun. There's nothing nice about coming 27th but someone has to... some people need to realise this before they carry on with their wrist-slitting.

I seem to recall the very first post you typed after this song was presented was "we're gonna win". What has changed since then for you to lower your expectations continually, preparing for what seems like the inevitable bottom 5 result? You can't dress it up, If UK do as badly as predicted then it is a disaster. It cannot be brushed under the rug with a "they tried their best" excuse. Everyone tries their best. You need more than that to do well. I don't particularly blame the singers. They aren't fantastic, but will vocally be fine on Saturday. I blame whoever thought a song this dated and cheesy could do anything at Eurovision 2015. Scooch was the fault of the British public, but the BBC are to blame for this mess.

I understand you liked Scooch, but the bottom line is that very few others did and they paid for it with a dreadful result. There is no logical reason to suggest this will fare any different on Saturday, especially with a first half draw. It has the exact same vibes for me. I can't believe it was only a year ago when on Saturday night I was cheering on the UK to what I hoped was a victory, for actually bringing a good song. The result never happened, but at least things were respectable. I feel the UK will be the laughing stock of European TV viewers when they see this. It sucks to see that for any country.

OK, now with that out of the way, I don't like the way the discussion is veering in this thread, so lets cut out the politics. Especially you, jackmc for bringing it up in the first place. If you want to discuss these things, do so in the British Politics thread in the Politics section of the forum.

Continued discussion of this will result in posts being deleted and possible warnings.

I was talking about the Flag of St. Patrick, which is from a country no longer in the UK, but still, you go ahead and rant, son ^^

and I'll stop now. End of the day, crappy entry. When you look at the British music scene today, the BBC could have done so, so much better.

Oh I'll agree with you there (I wouldn't call it crappy...), but I don't really think that's what we were discussing ;)
From cross I thought you meant + rather than x, which I thought was typically refereed to as a saltire. When it comes to discussing flags of Ireland/Northern Ireland I think I'll avoid that too ;)

Of course, the last person we picked was Josh Dubovie. Maybe one day a compromise could be that the BBC pick 10 or so from Introducing, and the public get one night to vote on them + their song + a somewhat finished staging (since the videos they release often don't tell you much about the performance) to decide the entry.

The problem for the BBC (or rather, the Eurovision team), from what I hear, is that there is simply no will or money spent on it (due to the public perception of failure), and since Guy came back last year he fought hard just to get the Red Button stuff, GNS appearance and Semi Finals on BBC3 which were all set to be cancelled.
