I'd love to be in the camp wishing a dishonourable 27th on this, but I'm afraid of the repercussions if this does badly. Like it's an awful song but Eurovision will get mocked mercilessly by the British press if it comes last.

ITV? No thanks. Big events should always be the exclusive property of the BBC in my eyes, that's what we pay the TV License for ;)

I think ITV would do a decent job of it. Ant and Dec would probably commentate which would be annoying, but if they can rival the BBC's coverage of it, they should be given a go.

Maybe they'll give us 12 like in 2009 (dont let Cyprus qualify tonight xpray )

It's charted pretty Ok considering it's so disliked. It's charting better than other favourites like Norway, Serbia (new fave) & Spain (if it can be considered one).
Peak charting

31- Greece
32- Finland
50- UK
86- Norway (Round about, could have just made that up)
140- Austria

I think we will get like zero points from Western Europe, but I do think Eastern Europe will quite like it - it seems to have been more popular with Eastern Europeans on the fansites from what I've seen. And then Ireland, Malta and Australia obviously ;)

It's surprising how well we do with eastern Europe considering all the shit the British public give them. I think Malta will be so-so because they're not always consistent with giving points, thanks to their jury who isn't friendly to us at all. In 2009 the Maltese public gave Jade 12 and it was the Jury who flopped them and pushed them down to 10.

Tbf though we came second to Yohanna with the Maltese so I let them off ;)

Performing at the EuroVillage

Looks like they're having fun, which will definitely help the performance on Saturday. Got the impression last year that Molly was sick of the song by the time the final came round.

I got the impression Molly hated the whole Eurovision experience.

The difference between Molly and EV is that Molly was hoping to use Eurovision as a platform for her career, whereas I think EV are largely doing it for the hell of it :D

Hm yeah possibly, I didn't really follow her much outside of the released videos/rehearsal stuff.

I think if we ever want to win (or do well) we need to find someone who wants to do Eurovision for the sake of doing Eurovision, not just as a springboard for a promised future career. Chances are they fail, nothing comes of it, and the cycle continues, with fewer people willing to do it and the quality declining.

For example, Belgium this year - Loic is 19 and was asked to do it after coming second on the Belgium Voice. And he's been responsible for the song, staging, choreography, costumes, graphics, everything about the final image. And it show's in the strength of the performances. By contrast, Molly wrote her song specifically for Eurovision, EV had it written for them, and I don't believe either of them had much say in the staging beyond saying 'yes' or 'no' to other peoples ideas. Regardless of the actual quality of the song, you can always tell the UK performances have been designed by committee because nothing matches as well as it could - there is no overall 'vision' for the show beyond ticking the boxes of 'singer' + 'dancer/musician/backing' + 'generic camera angles' + 'pyro/neon'.

Apparently Molly had a lot of control actually over her staging, that's why it came across as by hippy/bohemian like with all that henna shit.

Hm OK, but my point is if that was the 'vision' she had for the song then it should have been there from day one. Not a last minute 'surprise' of "how are we going to stage this?" "oh, I like like this hippy stuff I've found" "fine we'll go with that". And it doesn't fit the song either. 'Power to the people/Children of the Universe' could have had a great theme, such as ordinary people doing amazing things, global power, space, whatever. Not people lying around dressed somewhere between Ancient Rome, Vikings, and India.

And I think the BBC/Entries are very poor with the camera work. Molly looked lost on stage and my worry is that for EV that it'll be even harder for the cameras to get close to them because of all the lighting bars around Austria's stage.

The last time we did well with an unknown entry, Jade, was because it was ALW's song, ALW's vision, ALW staging, ALW's promotion...I think Guy is a good producer but I don't think he is creative and I fear the BBC is not as 'cutting edge' as they think they are when it comes to the performances. We need an entrant who has a vision for their song, that Guy and the BBC can adapt and neaten, rather than them trying to lead the process.

I think our points will mainly come from eastern Europe, I'm not saying we are gonna get loads but hey I would be happy with double figures at the end of night. I hope Ireland will give us some points. If Cyprus don't get to the final tonight Greece may be kind to us :) I would hope we get a point or two from the land of OZ too :)
