The performance wasn't mindblowing but I liked it a lot! Criminally underrated.
What does the press say?

Our press isn't saying much other than it beat last years entry

I've read mostly negative things. You know, the usual 'politics' crap. Of course, no-one actually looks at the results and sees how the results were probably the least 'political' for years.

Even our jury was full of pensioners

Mike Batt 64
Lyndsey de Paul 62
Tony Hatch 73
Tony Blackburn 70

Seriously?

We can surely hold them responsible for Russia's unexpected 10 pointsxgaah

I've decided I don't like the new way the positions of all 26 songs jury and public votes are combined.. Cause it's done stuff like this. When we have a jury made up of people in their 60's, I know it's a generalisation but it's obvious what type of songs they'll be voting for and which they'll be putting at the bottom of their list. Did we really give 0 points to Cascada (who were very popular here) and Margaret yet vote like crazy for Russia?

Just sent a complaint to the BBC, basically saying that we need a national final again, maybe 4 semi final weeks and then a final with credible artists and writers and no cheesy acts and that there are probably 100s of unsigned artists who would love to compete in the Eurovision. I also said that the national final would fill up the Saturday night void where Strictly Come Dancing has finished and The Voice has not yet started, between January and March.

Yeah something strange is going on here.

I think they should stick to ALL televote and let the public decide. I wonder what the results would have been like then! Probably the same at the top but much different from 5 onwards!

I wasn't a fan of Bonnie's performance last night, and I was surprised we managed to place that 'high' considering (France were far superior tbh). It's not because her voice sounded gravelly, Bonnie's voice always sounds gravelly, and I like that, it's the fact that it sounded a bit strained/over-worked. It's a pity she couldn't have rested her voice more before the big night.

I'm optimistic that the BBC will try to up their game next year. They've tested two ageing (no offence intended) stars already, and they've failed. But then again, perhaps a reality-style/melodifestivalen type event won't be on the cards if the BBC decide to commission another series of The Voice... Blergh. I'd say, give it to Channel 4, but I hate adverts.

I agree with you completely. We need to make it popular again and a part of our nation. We should do a copy of the Swedish national final Medoldifestival however its spelt, and get international juries in on it and stuff hahaha.

my mum who was watching the acts for the first time, even hours. Said she wasn't happy with Bonnies performance at all.

Just read online that Germany have blamed the euro zone crisis for their terrible placing and result.

HAHA, that's too funny! Germany did great for 3 years in a row and deservedly so. This year they just weren't good enough.

As for Bonnie, she should hold her head up high. she did the best she could and I voted for her. Someone on a tv show here said that, unfortunately, eurovision is for young people :(

That's cool but I don't think they will listen. Hopefully though they will take your complaint to one side instead of just rubbishing it and maybe look at all the other similar complaints, which I am sure they have. A lot of people here are calling for an MF-style NF, what could spark a lot of interest in Eurovision and people could actually begin to take it more seriously. Also I would like the radio and record buying public also to take it seriously. If they can get X Factor winners to number one every year, why not do the same with a Eurovision winner.

Hope not, but maybe with the UK media finally saying it's because of the BBC's poor efforts and not the politics, maybe that'll knock some sense into them!

Btw guys I just managed to find the actual complaint I sent to BBC

Here it is:

BBC you need to get your act together. Yes I did support Bonnie this year, but it all failed once again and we've only scored 2 top 10 positions in the last 16 years, and being one of the largest music importers of the world, that is just embarrassing. Yes I know all you care about is the total viewing figures and that's why we keep sending big names but who are no longer relevant. Many of us Eurovision fans would choose the UK act or selection process much better than the current way of doing this. We DON'T want big names, we want BIG talent and AMAZING songs. But unfortunately we're not getting this.

All I propose is the re-introduction of the National Final. It doesn't have to be as big as something like say, 'Melodifestivalen' from Sweden, but perhaps just 5 weeks in February/March where there are four semi-finals and then the final on the last Saturday. It would certainly fill up the void in the early 2014 where Strictly Come Dancing has finished and The Voice hasn't yet started, meaning better ratings. Just advertise it on BBC that you're looking for artists who are perhaps struggling to find a recording contract or struggling for a 'big break'. No cheesy acts just credible artists with modern songs, don't have to be dance songs or pop songs, but just modern. The public will then have their choice and at least on the evening of the Eurovision 2014 Grand Final, we can have more pride in our entry.

Thank You,
Ryan
