Politics discussion stops now. Take this to all of you as a general warning. Continued political discussion out of place will result in further action being taken.

Well, they chose Yulia last year to counter the Ukrainian hate campaign and sent her this year to keep up to their word. Now this affair is closed. It will be interesting to see what they do next year when they have a lot more options.

Peace song or cheesy pop song with over-the-top staging, that's the question. xthink

They did, but they wanted to mock Ukraine after Jamala's victory. Politics really do make it worse for everyone.

Okay, I admit they took the political trolling seriously last year and this year is the result of that. The only thing they failed to take seriously twice in a row is to send a song to a song contest.

Last year yes but this year no. ERT didn't supported her and the song was selected because the other 2 were disqualified. I'm sure ERT would've prefered Chorostalites or Areti Ketime instead. Also it was clear that ERT didn't even wanted to qualify this year. They put more effort for Argo & Demy than for Yianna. X-OI

I meant Russia, not the Greek drama. ;)

At least they have been more creative with their song selections than you with your postings. xboring

These are their two options. I can't help it if that's all that Russia ever sends. xshrug

^ had she prepared better, she would not have to cry now.

However even the best singing could not save this.

I'm very sorry for Julia. She didn't deserve that. Just look at her how she smiles when singing the song. It's the smile of joy and hope... and a bit of fatigue. 1st Channel is the main fault of this, including using her as pawn in their games.

I hope she will move on and stop taking it that seriously.

I deeply hated her performance tonight, but seeing her crying is making me emotional.

Agree with this so much, this girl is clueless. She is just used as a puppet so I don't get why people are hating on her so much

I don't know why people just criticise her, what about the backing singers, the staging, the whole thing?

She had a good song, a nice presentation but generally she couldn't sing I must say... I believe she was around 15th-16th place in juries and 12th-13th in televoting...

I didn‘t like Russia tonight as both the song and the performance were weak but seeing Yulia cry makes me feel really sad :(

I think Russia missed an opportunity to do well this year by choosing a song that didn't fit her vocally. As she was meant to return in 2018, they could have put everything into the composition: one that wouldn't have been that challenging, knowing she would struggle. Honestly, something along the lines of "Taken By A Stranger" would have been totally doable live for instance, and there wouldn't have been any compromise on the musical quality. Either they lacked flair big time or they shot themselves in the foot on purpose.

The final product wasn't as bad as I expected, I did enjoy the performance for what it was, and even the staging didn't look that bad with the camera work.

Anyway, what is done is done. We knew failure was likely to await them this year. At least, they can keep Romania and Azerbaijan company.

If there is a lesson to be learned, it's for them to stop relying on the same old standards and start innovating: ditch their friends-composers, be more daring musically, not being afraid of showcasing their language and talents... But with Moldova in the final, they might as well appeal to Kirkorov for help next year and nothing will have changed :?

It'll be interesting to see what they'll cook up next time.
