She got 1 whole f**** year to work on it and to train her vocals and her English pronunciation. What's the point of singing in English if you can't? :?

Well, English pronunciation is difficult. I still cannot get it after more than 20 years, while I get well French and German pronunciations.

It is understandable why she sings in English, she wishes to be understood by the audience.

Yes non-english song unfortunately can do well only if it's got amazing kind of performance, like :hu: :pt: 2017 or :rs: :al: 2012. I can find a lot of examples. It's not just about good singing, the performance itself must be OUTSTANDING. I think :ru: 2009 result with Mamo was really good as for non-English song. Too bad 11th place considered too bad for Prikhodko and her career quickly fell down after that.

2009 was so amazing year.... Oh, memories. My sweet teen age. That eurovision was awesome. Everyone here of my friends overplayed Rybak song and my grandma had this as ringtone for 2 years.

To be able to be understood by parts of the audience (so we can deduct quite a healthy portion from Eastern Europe and Southern Europe incl. France), she needs to atleast be able to know what she sings and be able to pronounce it atleast somewhat decent... if she didn't suddenly turn into some linguistic genius since last year's tragedy entry... I doubt it xshrug

Anyways Salvador won with few understanding the lyrics, Jamala won with a chorus very few would understand aswell... bottom line: English is not needed and in the case of Yulia it will just harm her overall appearance.

Well, if English is not needed, then why Sweden never sings in Swedish ?

I'm not saying that the audience will understand Yulia's English, but I'm saying that I understand the arguments for choosing English. And she is trying. That's why she deserves some credit. Although Russia as country does not deserve much sympathy of course. But here we are getting in the politics.

Well, at least I do not remember Sweden singing in Swedish in Eurovision. But okay, this thread is about Russia, not Sweden.
