Re: RUSSIA 2018 - Yulia Samoylova
The question is that language seems to be more important than the song itself, according to some opinions expressed here. I do not agree with that.
I'm still surprised that people who label themselves "Eurovision fans" doesn't grasp the concept of having different languages represented in the contest instead of having a mono-contest where only one language and certain styles are represented instead of countries showcasing themselves to Europe
Surely the song is important, but language is part of the song and different languages have different characteristics that adds to the overall song, and in this case we have a singer who doesn't understand English, let alone is able to speak (sing it), so please tell me how is it benefiting her and the Russian entry to stick to English then? Why is making a fool of yourself something that would benefit the entry? How will it benefit the entry if she will have to spend half of the performance to think about her pronunciation instead of focus solely on the performance and singing?
Can someone explain, because I don't get it, why it's suddenly BAD to have an open mind and want to hear different languages in the contest? Isn't this what Eurovision should be all about? To showcase our countries, not hide where we from?
