Doesn't change the fact that Russia does send a pretty meh ballad this year that wouldn't have qualified if it weren't for their obsessed diaspora.

The same could be said about Sweden or Ukraine on different occasions (including this year) yet it's only mentioned to exhaustion every year in the Russian thread so that's yet another double standard.

You only hear "This song only qualified cause its Russia" but NEVER "This song only qualified cause its Sweden or Ukraine" NEVER!

You think Portugal or Estonia would score high with songs like Undo or Tick-Tock :?

And the song being meh is opinion not fact.

Also in todays German Press: Putin has set Voting camps in a few russian speaking countries, in which people are gathered together only to vote for Russia (Not a joke, This is the Story today in Germany and BTW there has Never Been so much attention to a semifinal in Germany than this Year)

Sweden barely got any diaspora so not sure your point, and it may be a cliché ballad, but I think it's stronger than this one but taste is taste... Ukraine was one of the few uptempos with an effective performance... but sure Ukraine also benefits from the whole bloc thing...

Yes of course it's opinions, just like your idea about people being biased against Russia is also an OPINION.

It may be opinion but there's A LOT of proof to back it up just on this forum alone and that doesn't even include the yellow press in Germany or UK that are proving my point as well. What proof is there that Russia only qualifies because of diaspora and nothing else?

Apparently only Ukraine is allowed to go over the top with gimmicks cause if Russia did the exact same performance as Maria last night I doubt many of you would be praising it. The see-saw is pretty tame compared to a guy running in a hamster wheel if you ask me

Shame on the audience for booing when they qualified, what a idiots. I hate just HATE when ppl mix music and sports with politics. Thats idiotic.

Fact is that this year Russian song is not masterpiece of music art, but fact is too that girls wqas far from the worst on first semi. Why audience don't booes to Iceland or Sweden, or when they constantly exchange higher points frm year to year. This disgusts me. We have same story for Dina last year, and she rocks with singing.

Congratulation Russia on well deserved qualification again!

I don't read such press...

Fact of the matter is this year is generally weak, and amongst the songs in the first semi, I actually think Russia did in fact deserve to qualify and eventhough the song is rather meh, I think they made a pretty effective performance of it.

The issue generally is the amount of ballads as I see it... so therefor I'd rather see some other uptempo making it... also Russia (just like Azerbaijan... although I think their song is better) is an import product and people should know by now my opinion on imports...

No matter what you say, Sweden don't have like 10 countries with lots of diaspora just waiting to vote... it's hardly enough to qualify just by exchanging votes with 1-2 countries xshrug

I agree though, that in the context of this semi and the competition, Russia deserved to qualify... not because it's something special, because it's a pretty meh song... but because of the general weakness of most songs.

Yes, completely, specially with "Undo". In fact, after last night I'd say even San Marino would make the top ten with "Undo". You might not like the song as your opinion, but you must admit the performance was great. And there must be a reason why it's now 1st in the odds.

yeah, it's so funny. They want to achieve, that the people think, that all things, which are from Russia are evil. And I didn't read this voting-camps-thing on any other site, btw. So maybe it's really only imagined :D.

We (Romanians) should keep quite. Remember last year and that awful song... and we qualified...:|

And 2011, it was so incredibly bland, it should have crashed and burned on the semi. Romania doesn't come close to Russia on this though. The only entry of Russia I really liked since 2004 are 2007 and 2009.

Yeah you are right! But you have to admit, Sweden and Armenia big faves in betting odds and everywhere else, and this one is more viewed than them and the most viewed one from the 1st semi, give them some credit.. ;) :) It's fantastic..

I love how people claim Russia sends crap every year as if it was a fact

People claiming Shine is dated and then support San Marino or Portugal and many others

Many song themes are cheesy, corny, tacky if representing Russia but if the same represents another country then its perfectly fine

People claiming they do nothing but gimmicks to disguise poor songs and then support Ukraine

Apparently its okay to vote for your neighbor as long as its not a vote for Russia....notice how its ONLY Russia that gets booed when it receives top points but its hardly ever Ukraine or even Azerbaijan

Apparently Russia deserves to get booed just cause their one of the "guaranteed" qualifiers who always qualify no matter what yet no one ever does it for the other "guaranteed" ones

It's pretty clear most people just want just want an excuse to trash Russia so their pulling stuff out of their ass...why not just admit biased against the country and be done with it instead of being hypocrites :?

I hope you weren't thinking of me with the San Marino reference as I love Russia's song this year:lol: I know i've agreed with people describing it as dated but I don't care what era a song feels like it comes from. I know Valentina's song is a relic from another time but her interpretation of the song was so brutally honest and achingly beautiful, that touched me. What's important to me is whether I enjoy a song or not. Russia's song was strong and dramatic this year, and the music very infectious. It deserved it's place in the final. However, last year I honestly thought Russia had one of the worst songs ever in the contest as the whole thing stunk of desperation and came across as so insincere and very contrived.

The reaction in the hall yesterday when Russia qualified was disgraceful and made me feel embarrassed to be a fan of the contest.
