Russia send crapy songs every year and still they manage to qualify and skip the last positions ...and I guess that's why people booed

Exactly. Even in 2010 they qualified and they got a good place :?

I agree there.

We will never know the answer to such question but - will any other country (say... Portugal, Israel, Belgium, Slovenia...) finish in the same position with the same song?

I am not a fan of booing, it's counterproductive. I understand that people are upset at Russia and their constant qualification with the majority would consider weak songs (I am one of them) but don't punish the artists for that. Let's wait for the actual voting results and proper breakdown. It is quite possible that the Tolmachevy Twins actually received support from juries as well (and not just the East). If not, then we can focus on fixing the system.

Hm, until now I was sure the booing had more to do with the current Crimea situation than with Russia always qualifying. Which of course doesn't justify it more.

Doubtful, Russia was giving a warm applause before and after their performance. The booing only started when the results were announced.

How could Russia not have qualified? Arguably the song is a bit cheesy, but hey, this is eurovision, since when has that been a problem? The performance was both visually and vocally striking and a real vote magnet, it must have hoovered up votes from all places alike. I can't see any couintry not qualifying with this, honestly xshrug

Well, I think it's more disrepectful what they have been doing lately, damaging the contest with political votes. I find the booing pretty fairly way to show in front of million of people the unhappiness that it generate for most of the fans. There is no other way to show it. It's nothing against to the artists themselves.
Luckily the show was in Denmark and nobody was arrested for booing or voting for an unfriendly neighbour xhmmm

I think booing is a perfectly harmless and pacific form of protest against something you believe is wrong. It's not like people get the chance to do it everyday so it's probably as well they use this oportunity where something stands for a flag.

In the german press today: the russian girls cried so much after booing, that they may overthink the participation in the final. Are there any true information for this, cause this newspaper (BILD) is not really trustable.

I think that another reason why they have been booed is because they decided to REPRESENT a country which does what it does.

True, but some people may still associate: Twins = Russia = Putin = evil xshrug
If someone decides to represent a country, then they also represent things connected to that country.

I find it normal that they cried... they are just 4 years older than me xshrug And I would cry if they booed me only because of my country... And then it's not fair to boo a singer only because he/she represents a country that is ready for a war...:( If some people could just forget the politics for 3 hours...it would have been perfect....

I really feel sorry for them...it's not because they didn't like the song...it's because it's Russia...and it's really really bad :(
