I’m one of those cases—I had to move 100 km to study in Porto, so I completely understand the "struggle". I know what it’s like to be far from family, to be in an unfamiliar city (and I still feel it, as I’m in the final year of my master’s, although now, I also feel at home in Porto). And I like the song, I really feel it, but does that make me want to vote for it? No!
That's actually a good point, Napa's song is suceeding by most metrics with the exception of engagement, which is still oddly low, at least on spotify and youtube, on tiktok things seem very different but that is a app I don't use or have any intent on starting using.
Does the other songs have gotten edits or covers in there? Henka has shared a couple of edits of Jinx in Arcane with her song, but appart from that and people mentioning videos of homesick students with Napa's song in the back I have no clue how the other songs are doing in there.

Those Portuguese from Switzerland who steal our diaspora points every year now!   xkiss

Televoting in Switzerland is now usually split between Albania, Serbia and Portugal.... lol
In a portuguese podcast that I listen they actually mentioned that due to Switzerland being the host country the influence of the diasporas will be diluted, more people from the general public will be tuned to the show and will likely vote, plus the eurofans that will travel to Basel may want to vote using swiss sim cards. So I wouldn't count getting much from Switzerland in the semi if we end up sending Napa or Fernando Daniel to Basel.

I scroll regularly on TikTok and the only song that gets reactions there is NAPA's. I've also seen a goth girl showing her support to Henka, but nothing more. And the algorithm knows I like Eurovision, so if it doesn't show it to me, it's not there xD

In my perspective, it is all about casual people from Madeira with sensitive experiences as "emigrants on the mainland" and nothing more. A good friend from Madeira told me about their popularity. They are niche. Really niche.
Juries should know where they are voting for.

However, Semifinal 1 is building up as the weakest one and with absence of ballads. Probably there will be just Slovenia with a ballad. So, I am not that worried about our chances with any of the general top 5 favorites.

Portugal is 11th in the odds. I don't remember anything like this happening before our national selection was aired. Is this because of one song or the selection and because we have many good options?

I'd say a few good options combined with the average low quality of entries we know so far. I wouldn't say it's linked to a particular song in the line-up, we don't know what's gonna happen.

The choreographer that worked on Bobbi Arlo's staging and will be working with Henka for FdC, published a video showing the choreo during rehearsals - here -

One thing he mentioned was that they created the choreo in one day and, to me, the choreo has a some strong visuals, sadly the production in the irish Late Late Show did an awfull camera work and none of them was recorded live. I know that RTP will do a better show than RTÉ did with Bobbi, so I'm feeling positive that things will go better for Henka, I just hope that she is already rehearsing...

Edit: So I'm let's positive now, the choreographer shared a instastory saying something like "lees than two days before I sunk my teeth into this", refering to Henka's song... So it seems that they haven't started... To be fair Henka does not need to dance, but she needs a polishes staging, not a half baked one and I seriously doubt that in a week or a week and a half they can create a eurovision ready-package...

It is Josh. From my perspective, it is the season's first clear and potential jury winner.
He was so lucky with the draw. Going on the first semifinal will elevate his hype (if everything goes as it should).

That's what I would think too. Only other candidate (at all) is Adonxs from Czechia IMO, but we have not even heard the real Song yet.
Obviously, there are still some other unreleased songs (mostly France and generally strong countries like Italy and Sweden), but so far it would look really, really good for him.

I started following the artist André Duarte back in august when he released the song "Chatêau Margaux", he is a great lyricit and this song in particular uses grindr's notification sound as an harp, I love it!
Aniway, today he reveladed the he tried to compete in this year's Festival da Canção via the free submition with the following song:

The 6 artists that where selected from the free submition in the end where Capital da Bulgária, Diana Vilarinho, Henka, Inês Marques Lucas, Josh e Xico Gaiato. I know that they do try to have variety in the lineup, so I'm guessing that RTP may have decided to go with Josh intead of André Duarte as both are "queer" artists with very strong and emotional ballads. In any case I hope to see André in next year's lineup.

The thing about thing guy is the lack of charisma to elevate a song.. everything sounds so calculated

I'm not sure an artist's lgbtq status should be considered at all when selecting songs so I'm not sure why you brought it up there, the fact though you are probably right that they wanted genre diversity

I'm sorry, that came across wrong. I meant "queer" in regard to how they present themselves on stage.

A studio version and a music video on one day before festival da canção. Marco Rodrigues posted a video as well

Well, the Festival da Canção artists are promoting their songs, nice!

My first comment on this NF here this year. Josh really has an amazing song that screams quality ! I could see this being Top 3 at Eurovision easily and contend for the win depending on the rest of the competition. But he needs to win the NF first and it's not a done deal it seems.

Josh might win the jury vote in this NF but for the portuguese fans here, between Josh competitors in your NF, who do you think is the most likely to get the best televote-jury combination outside of him please ? I've seen videos of Fernando Daniel and it seems he's excellent live so maybe it could a good thing for him for the jury vote. He might nail his live performance and get let's say 2nd/3rd in the juries. He's also very popular.

How those juries are voting exactly in FdC ? What are their criteria for a NF like Festival Da Cancao ? Does popularity of the artist also influence the outcome ? Or the potential at ESC ? And last question in case of a tie (which is possible) jury or televote prevail ? Also if juries acknowledge Josh huge potential for ESC, do you think they would intentionnally downgrade at the juries potential dark horses with a real chance to win just to get the best song at ESC ?

I'll try and answer what i can :)

The fandom here is basically split between Josh and Henka (Josh is ahead though).
Outside the bubble, the other 2 contenders seem to be Fernando Daniel (due to his popularity) and NAPA (their song is viral on social platforms and spotify, miles above the rest).

I'm hoping Josh takes it all with televote and juries combined, even if he doesn't top either vote (i don't think he will). But it won't be an easy task.

As for juries tweaking things to make sure the best song wins... Yes, they do that often and we have multiple examples of that since FdC revamp.

They don't usually favour an artist just cause they're well established, regardless of their song. We have a handful of artists that ended up in modest places and they were well known. So I'm not too worried about that.

In case of a tie, televote prevails.

I guess we have to just wait and see the live performances. It's all a bit uncertain by now, the semis will show who's actually in the pole position to win.

It will be a four people race, the esc/fdc fandom is divided between Henka and Josh, but Napa has a lot of regional support and Fernando Daniel has a massive fandom that could help him the televote, not to mention that he could also get a lot of support form casual viewers that are used to seeing him as a mentor in "The Voice" and "The Voice Kids".
Regarding the judges, things are harder to predict and, honestly, if RTP where to fix the result for anyone it would be Fernando Daniel- He pretty much owes his sucess thanks to RTP and the show "The Voice", he won the 2016 edition, competede on FdC in 2017 and he has been a mentor to other contestants in 4 separate occasions, 3 on "The Voice Kids" and one in "TheVoice". He is someone that the broadcaster has worked with multiple times in the past and probably would make thing easier for them if he hapenned to win the nf, but I don't think that the broadcaster will or even can fix the jury vote this year, there are too much overlapping qualities between the major players, things could blew in their faces.
