Re: PORTUGAL 2018

Absolutely shameful what the jury did to Sunset. 1 point? What the hell is wrong with them? I get it, we should send a song in our language still there is no necessity to show prejudice to english. That's very disrespectuful for the effort made by the artist. Unfairly underaprecciated.
About the rest, not surprised about Piçarra sweep. A really passionate song indeed. In the final is going to be between him and Peu. Tough choice tbh. Yes, i payed more attention over the last days to 'Só por Ela' and it got stuck in my head. I give the edge to 'Cancao do Fim', frankly it has the best chance to reach its full potential (although, it may come across as too dark and depressing).

I read somewhere that Maria Inês Paris - "Bandeira azul" sounds Caboverden.

Is she somehow connected with Cabo Verde?

In "Patati patata" who is Minnie who is Rhayra?
The black one is from Mozambique or Angola?

if somebody knows I'd appreciate the answers. Thanks. :)

I'll watch the final live in Guimarães next week. And I just realized something amazing and that I never thought I'd ever do: I'll watch the start of someone's journey to Eurovision live, and I'll also watch the end of that journey in the Eurovision final live

Maria is the daughter of the composer, Tito Paris and he's cape verdean.
About Patati Patata, Rharya is the black one and she's from Angola if i'm not mistaken.

I love Diogo, but I expected something better from him. The song is way too over the top for me. It would have worked better had it exploded in a big final chorus preceeded by a long, delicate verse.

As much as I hate his whole 'the hipsterest of them all' act, Janeiro wins it for me.

Portugal follows its own path and it's great. People probably follow Melodifestivalen's explosions and kitsch and then have hard times to understand Portuguese selection. :D

Re: PORTUGAL 2018

I absolutely love Tamin's "Sobre nós". It's like something Alice Caymmi would sing. I'm really sad to see it's out.

I haven't listened to all the songs yet, but I went straight to the big favourite "Canção do fim". The song is absolutely gorgeous. It really is a stunning composition. I have one very big problem though. To me it's like i'm watching a singer do a cover of a song from someone else. As I feared, i'm not fully connecting with his voice. I don't feel like this song is him. When I listened to Salvador last year you could feel everything coming through from the very depth of his soul, and the glove fitted the hand perfectly. Just a quick browse through of Diogo's other songs and it becomes very clear why i'm thinking this way with him. 10/10 song but I wish someone else was singing it. Pop vocals on the song are so off-putting for me. It's a real shame. I want to cheer for this hard, but i've got a huge wall to climb over. I can make it over the wall i'm sure but with a song like this, there shouldn't be an obstacle there in the first place. It's superb.

Portugal have got some crackers this year. I know they probably won't win ESC or anything, but there's a few songs they could select that I would love. Can't wait to hear the studio versions.

I think Janeiro is my favourite, but Diogo and Claudia are great too.

Re: PORTUGAL 2018

Portugal has chosen and the final will now be a mere formality: Diogo will be our next representant in eurovision and there's nothing anyone can do about it even if they wanted to, which they don't. Of course, I fully expected the televote to go this way. Handsome, young, well known artist as a contestant and the result would not be very different anywhere in the world. The jury vote baflled me though. I would not have foreseen it in a million years.

There's obviously something I'm missing here as I can't see anything in it. I find it melodically poor and dull. I imagine even i could come out with a melody like that if I started humming aimlessly on my own. Lyrically I find it cheesy and almost infantile in its proposed "message" that doesn't go much further than to tell us such important and unheard of truths as "you look at everything but you see nothing". No poetic simplicity like Amar pelos Dois. Just simplicity... of the plain sort.

As far as lyrics are concerned, there aren't even much of them. Apparently he couldn't be bothered to fill the whole 3 minutes (two and a half being quite enough!) - or just couldn't think of anything else to do with the song. Some uh uh uh and yeah yeah yeah had already been used in the meagre time in between.

His voice is nice. Naturally. His presence pleasant and charismatic enough although i didn't find his performance to be sincere. His facial expression felt painfully fake.

Could the juries be getting cold feet, being too frightened to face a popular uproar should they deny the favourite the winning ticket? Of course not. It's just me who can not get it xshrug

Yes, well, I hate it, but I shall have to live with it. There were 2 or 3 songs I loved in what was perhaps the strongest line up to date (Cláudia, Lili) but they have no chance. Peu, who won the other semi and could thus be considered competition is imo still worse. Janeiro might be marginally better, but it's too litle, just not enough and i don't really like it anyway.

We were extremely lucky last year. Not because Salvador came up, but because we managed to pick him in the end. It will not happen again. We're back into full pitch black Portuguese night for another 50 years.

Anyway, i'm not commenting here anymore. My comments would be always negative and would grow grimmer as time progressed becoming toxic and spoiling everybody's fun

Good luck, Portugal. I think you're going to need it.

Re: PORTUGAL 2018

i prefer claudia.
the song is modern & still classic in a way... and very beautiful. her live vocals allow improvement though...

diogo is nice (as is his song ;) ) but there's not much happening and it runs in the same vein as amor pelos dois

So negative... gosh. :/ Diogo has a beautiful song... at least for me... and we can't win every single year. :)

I think Portugal can do very well in Lisbon. There are some fantastic songs in their national selection. Diego can go very high if the choose him.

Re: PORTUGAL 2018

Yesterday I was all focused on Diogo and his beautiful song, but I took time to appreciate "O jardin" by Claudia Pascoal and I find it absolutely mesmerizing. In both cases, Portugal will bring one of their best entries ever and I will support you guys. Actually, this year I feel more Portuguese than Italian.

Surely, there can be no defense for this? 1xshock

Well...now, this definitely changes my perspective of Piçarra's entry. It's sad, it was actually my favourite but this is plain plagirism. He won't get my vote that's for sure.

I don't he will be disqualified at all... I've heard songs that sounded even more similar than that on Eurovision and nothing happened xshrug

Re: PORTUGAL 2018

my dudes, if cascada (a group that subsists entirely on barely-legal plagiarism) went to eurovision, diogo is FINE

i do wish something happened though because cláudia is much, much better and as i see it has a better chance of not makemakeing it in the final
