It's really only in Greece and Bulgaria where the official name for Macedonia is Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, because both of these countries have regions also named Macedonia. In basically every other country on earth it's Republic of Macedonia or simply Macedonia, like A-lister said.

I personally think it's insulting to force a title or a name onto a country just because there's a part of your country that shares the same name. Who cares who took the name first? This is what Macedonia is called. It's a little sand box rhetoric, if you ask me: "well I saw it first!" The Macedonia of Greece and Bulgaria are not sovereign states and I think their Macedonias are the ones that needs to be specified which Macedonia it is, not the other way around. Not only is it rude to force Macedonia to add FYR to their name or be referred to as FYROM (even worse!), but it's also incredibly childish.

Depends on the source, 133 nations (a majority) officially recognizes it as Republic of Macedonia (or just simply Macedonia). This includes my own country, aswell as USA, UK, China, Russia, Brazil, India, Canada... (to name some influential countries). No offense, but I think the whole name dispute is quite silly and I think Greece do have more important issues to think about than this name.

Personally, I never use the official full formal names of any countries (in the case of Sweden that would be Kingdom of Sweden), so I don't find it necessarily in this case either. So whether one recognizes it as 'F.Y.R.' or just 'Republic of', it's still easier to just call it by its name without the formalities attached (because fairly we would have to attach the formalities to the other countries aswell then). I mean the formal name for Greece is Hellenic Republic, but I never seen anyone using that when speaking of Greece

Yes, many important countries from that 133 countries, have already recognized that country as "Macedonia", but not all of them. Germany, Spain, Australia, Italy or Japan for example haven't recognized yet as "Macedonia" the country. But, it has to do with each person's thoughts and beliefs, the whole thing about the name. Of course many people see it as a silly thing but others not. Of course, it's not the biggest problem that we have, but here in Greece it's a big problem and we have to respect that.

I know the background on this 'issue', and while I might 'get' the Greek concern I think it's a bit sad to even regard it as a 'big problem' but each to their own...

Well from a personal perspective I feel indifferent and neutral to the dispute, so therefor I just use the simple name Macedonia, like I said I don't use formalities regarding any countries and feel no need to do it in this case either to prove some sort of point, and that has nothing to do with respect or lack of respect for any part because quite frankly I couldn't be much bothered by it, but I must say that the title "F.Y.R." is probably the worst ever... I actually feel a bit sorry for Macedonia to be constantly refereed to as that, I mean any other solution would be better.

I mean think about, for instance if Lithuania would be refereed to as 'Former Soviet Republic of Lithuania"

Actually, Bulgaria has no issue regarding this (they officially recognize it as Republic of Macedonia unlike Greece), their issue is instead that they don't officially recognize Macedonia/n as an official nation/-ality or language on its own, instead they regard it as a western Bulgarian ethnic group and dialect.

Poor Macedonia

Actually it's not "just a name issue". It's about people of FYROM who consider themselves as descendants of Alexander the Great etc. Anyway we can argue about this for years. Hell we do argue about this for years in Greece. This is not the right place to discuss this and generally I'm not into politics. You guys keep writing Macedonia and we will keep writing FYROM. Let's just focus on ESC ok? :)

Oh, I'm pretty sure you'll be in (:gr:)... I'm more worried about some of the others.

It would be really cool if we'd get a record year xcheer

Yes! Yes! Only 6 confirmations left until the record!!!!!:)
Poland & Montenegro are propably in the list, imao.
We are waiting Portugal,Cyprus,San Marino,Greece.
I think that Greece will not confirm untill we get 31,5 billion euros from European Union.
Otherwise we have money only untill midle of November!

Yes, that's the truth! If Greece won't get that money, sadly won't compete in Malmo!

Hmm, actually I think :cy: and :gr: (regardless of the economical situation) are the safest bets... I'm more worried about :pl: not returning and I'm also afraid some or all of :sm:, :pt: and :me: might withdraw... but of course I hope all the remaining 6 aswell as the so far rumored/confirmed will be in.
