29 countries reveal intention for 2013

Here is our second round-up ahead of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Some more countries countries have let us know about their plans for 2013, and the number of participants announced now stands at 29. With 15 countries still waiting with any announcement, the maximum number of countries in Malmö would seem to be 43. We have tried to get as much information for this list as possible at this stage, and contacted most delegations directly for details.

There is a link to the corresponding Esctoday articles where we have some information. We will be updating the list as more details become available. Of course no country has yet been able to register at EBU officially and any of them can still change their minds until the EBU deadline, usually in December.

We shall concentrate on the 49 currently existing countries that have so far taken part at least once in the Eurovision Song Contest. There have been no indications that another one of the active members of the European Broadcasting Union EBU would want to join the contest. There are neither any new EBU members this year, and the next time EBU will consider new active members in January will be too late for 2013. So under current Eurovision Song Contest rules it is very unlikely that a new country could enter the contest in Malmö.

Definitely planning to participate at this stage:

Albania – Festival i këngës in 20 to 22 December 2012
Armenia
Austria
Azerbaijan
Belarus
Belgium (RTBF)
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Croatia
Denmark – Danish Melodi Grand Prix final TBC
Estonia – Eesti laul final 2 March 2013
Finland – Uuden musiikin kilpailu final 9 February 2013
Georgia
Germany
Hungary
Iceland – Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins final 9 February 2013
Ireland
Israel – national final Jan-Feb 2013
Lithuania – selection shows start in Oct 2012
Malta
Moldova
Netherlands
Norway – Melodi Grand Prix final 9 February 2013
Russia
Slovakia
Sweden – Melodifestivalen final 9 March 2013
Switzerland – Die grosse Entscheidungsshow 15 December 2012
Ukraine
United Kingdom

The following countries are still expected to participate, but final confirmation or independent verification has not been received from these countries by esctoday.com. Many countries will still be waiting for the formal invitation from EBU, as well as the preliminary budget. Also, the rehearsal schedule and how many days each country will need to stay in the host city will be important information, before cash-strapped broadcasters for example can decide. And some have just not yet wanted to make their plans officially public.

Cyprus
France
Greece
Italy
Latvia
FYR Macedonia
Montenegro
Poland
Portugal
Romania (newspaper reports not confirmed by TVR)
San Marino
Serbia
Slovenia
Spain
Turkey

Not participating

Andorra
Czech Republic
Luxembourg
Monaco
Morocco

Algeria 'very moderate'? Compared to what? Saudi Arabia?...

Algeria, Morocco & Lebanon can enter Arabvision, Africavision, Mediterraneanvision or Worldvision ... hopefully not EUROvision however

Well...ok I don't care.
I WANT 44 COUNTRIES IN MALMÖ!:))))

Well, there will be 44 countries if all countries that took part last year enters again this year aswell as comebacks by Armenia & Poland. We don't need to turn it into a farce with entering all non-European countries (and kill the whole concept) to make a record year.

Europe alone is able to fill up every spot in this. With potential future comebacks by Monaco, Andorra & Luxembourg aswell as debuts by Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan... we could even end up with 49 countries at some point xcheer

Whooaaa I can't imagine Eurovision with 49 entries. Big 5 + Host = 6. 43 countries in semis. So 21 / 22 songs in a semi. I am just... impressed.

The only thing I'm f***ing, is stupid
I'd like to note, that no other wiki, outside the English one confirms this. I'd like it to be true, but OGAE Poland nor TVP confirmed that officially :/
Yeah true, thats why I wrote that I just hopes for that and not as thats 100% sure.

Anyway, the 44 countries record will be incredible if thats happens.

Especially for us sweds. xcheer

Well, there haven't been money for a couple of years now and people said the same past year. It's still the most watch show so I think Greece will be in.
