The hatecomments that Alex gets since hes Top3 with the Bookies are so disgusting...
Hopefuly he wins with 800+ Points. What a nice slap in the Face this would be for the haters.

I can't speak for others, but I'm not a "bandwagon-jumper", I loathed this entry from the get-go, my opinion didn't change about the entry itself since he miraculously ended up top. 3 with the bookies, however sure it makes me worried where Eurovision is headed if you can turn up with some basic dated TV Shop jingle written by a five year old and be considered a winner candidate suddenly just because you have a history with the contest and is able to sell that non-functioning diet machine combined steak grill to some overweight American housewives

He's obviously not going to do that, but the only slap it would cause is a slap in the face of Eurovision and its credibility and reputation, would be sad in a year like 2018 which for once has so much to offer, surely it would be Estonia 2001 all over again as it's musically on the same level.

In what form are you correcting me? I already acknowledged that performances are important, I just said that a song that is crap shouldn't be able to manage good results just because of the performance because in the end of the day it's a song contest, however I'm very well aware of that that's not always the case.
Not exactly sure what Sweden has to do with this thread? I always find it a bit ridiculous that people use that argument "if you criticize a song I like in its actual thread, I will go after your country's entry", well you picked the wrong Swede with that tactic because I happen not to like our entry this year either

In the end of the day, like you said, it's subjective, I just express my opinion on the entry, people are free to disagree of course, this is no disrespect to the fans of the entry, it's just my opinion on the song.

Of Course you are right about the right to state opinions. I was actually refering to your Statement that it is not a performer's contest. Of Course it is a SONG contest, but the performance is as important as the song. Without a good performance a perfect song could fail. And on the other hand, a maybe not so good song (for many Norway) could improve by a good performance, and that is what Rybak is doing. And about refering to Sweden, There are many people who bash about Norway in other threads (as far as I remember, you too). Sometimes it sounds like whining, just because he is high in the odds. That's what I call a childish behaviour. But then again, that's what ESC is all about and I do the same.Sometimes though I try to Refrain myself.

And I completely agree with you that performances have impact (sometimes alot), but I stick to my opinion that in a song contest, as good as a performance might be, I think that if the song isn't good it shouldn't really help. As I explained before, a crap will still be crap even if you spray Gold on it xshrug

Well, I used the Norwegian one as an example, however I didn't use it against Norwegians or fans of the song in other threads as some sort of random tactic. Anyways, I think there's nothing more I can add about this entry for now, all has been said that can be said

We will see what will happen on 12th of May, the last week tend to be a bit heated, I don't mean to disrespect the fans of this song I try to stay out of such nonsense, I only comment on the song itself. In the end of the day taste differs, but I really sincerely dread what a victory for this could cause Eurovision, it would be like the average higher quality of 2018 would be for nothing and all in vain.

Don't worry about victory. Even when I like the song I hardly doubt Norway will win. :D But in the past there were already winners when I thought ESC is at the end.Denmark 2013 for example. Life of ESC will be going on, there will be a new year with excitement. And heated debates about entries should always be a part of ESC. ;)

We'll see about the results, as for 2013 though it was a weaker year, although Denmark was alright (not my favorite but it was a decent winner in a pretty weak year), this year however the year is surprisingly strong.

Yes, ESC will live on, but question is what quality? I don't want 2018 to be one of those rare cases, rather a precedent in quality, but unfortunately can't see that happening if certain songs would win (Norway being one of them).

You sound like that if Rybak should actually win, you are afraid that the past coming years the expectations of the ESC will become lower You might be right, but you also may be wrong. This is very speculative. I actually hated Denmark 2013, it was one of the worst winners, but I never gave up hope that things can be corrected. In the past years I often didn't understand why a song was so underrated and an another so overrated. But I guess, ESC-Fans always are a little masochistic, they "like" to suffer and to be angry about certain decisions. And I like it.

Denmark 2013 was a masterpiece!

I agree and I also love Denmark 2013, I don't understand why are people here so much complaining about that winner! Beautiful song and beautiful instrumental! :)

Dont know, I miss some personality at her. 2 Months later she was already forgotten and had to cancel her Tour because she didnt sell enough Tickets. For me she was my #8 and I think Farid, Zlata or Aliona should have won.

Oooh, those were wonderful times for me, when I was watching ESC only on TV, I wasn't tracking it and contestants. I don't know anything about Emmelie, just her winning song, but I find that song beautiful. :D

One of my favourite winners! Only ''Euphoria'' was better this decade!

Her later carrer doesn't means that she wasn't the best in 2013!

Not really expectations, I'm more afraid of the quality of the coming contests if he's winning with THAT, it will give a signal to countries stepping up their game this year that it's pointless because in the end you can send a TV Shop jingle

One can say whatever they want about Rybak, but he's always been savy when it comes to his promos before Eurovision. In 2009 he targeted the Eastern markets and milked his Belarusian origin alot, this year he again promoted himself in these markets (after all they're his biggest markets after Norway), as well as going to one of the biggest TV shows in Sweden and now these photos with other potential front-runners as a "subtle" marketing plot targeting their public... like here with Elena...
