Well, I barely read mainstream media any longer... for news I use alternative/underground sources and for music I tend to check real music publications or music forums like these...

The so called "music journalists" from the mainstream media are no better than the rest they provide for us, and I'd rather hear "regular" peoples' opinions than some "expert" since in the end of the day no one is an expert on this field, it's just subjective, and when it comes to ESC it all seems politically flavored so seems to have very little to do with the music anyhow.

However I loved how in 2009 that the trashy Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet's music reviewer were in love with Svetlana Loboda! That was a once in a lifetime thing where I totally agreed with that magazine haha.

I need to find myself some alternative news source. I literally torture myself when browsing these awful newspapers.

Music I just spend hours finding myself and making my own mind up on. Discovered lots through the "similar artists" feature on lastfm. I never listen to what reviews say. You're right, music is all subjective. I hate when people give music ratings.

Svetlana was a legendxyes Did you agree because you secretly liked her too? I have far too many Svetlana plays on my lastfm account. I actually feel embarrassed how she's so high on my library list. Her music is delicious thoughxheat

About this British newspaper The Mirror. I know opinions differ but how could anyone call Moldova and San Marino the worst of the contest?xwhat I'm puzzled but amused:rolleyes:

Well, in Sweden one need alternative media because our mainstream media is extremely one-sided to say the least...

As for music I'm like you, I look for the most stuff myself but I also get tips from music forums (including this one) which are far better sources than a music review in a mainstream media.

Oh, it was never a secret I liked Svetlana! She's in my top. 3 for ESC 2009 and that performance will go down as the big finally of an era in ESC (the post-pre juries era). She's actually an amazing show artist and her material is great pop, not at all cheesy or cheap pop, but just great contemporary pop...

Well, they probably don't even know where Moldova or San Marino are so

Yes and finding music yourself is very rewarding as well. One of my friends over the years, i've introduced him to about 12 artists who he listens to a lot today. In comparison he's given me 1:lol: I'm so good at finding stuffxyes

Please tell me you also consider Svetlana's "Revolyutsiya" to be probably the best electropop song of all time?xheat She seriously is so good. Quality trash, delicious trash even. The fact that she actually is bloody good... just makes the trash very acceptable. What a star. She needs to come back to Eurovision!

Yes the paper probably doesn't even know where Moldova and San Marino are. I'm sure they have holidays or own houses in Spain though:rolleyes:

Can't wait for Moldova to slay on Saturday. Wonder if the paper will write an article of disgust and disbelief on Aliona's position like the Daily Mail did on Rona the year before when she got 5th place?

Someone must've been beyond drunk to rate Aliona and Valentina below not only Russia, but things such as Latvia, Romania
They should be exposed to public and laughed off :D

I'm always out there looking for new music, I'm like a music vampire in a sense I have to partly thank me liking ESC from an early age for my interest in music beyond the American/Anglo and Swedish cultural hemisphere... which is why I'm very scared that ESC is totally loosing its UNIQUE position amongst music shows.

Quality trash is a good way describing Svetlana  No but really she IS an amazing artist, she's sorta like an Ukrainian Madonna in a sense because she may not be the most talented or the most beautiful, but she has a sense for pop and for making shows and that starquality that is just God-given and not something anyone can train to get... and she also comes across as rather business-savy.

Oh well, I read two reviews on ESC this year in Swedish press and I was angry and threw it away  From now on I'm not bothered what the media say any more, nor do I care.

I'm always looking for new music too and feel the same as you. Being a Eurovision fan from a young age opened my eyes to that there is a lot more out there than what the radio plays in ones own country. I'm scared for exactly the same reasons you are about the direction the contest seems to be heading. media, jury and awful talent shows on tv where the emphasis is on being "a technically great singer" that warbles up and down are all part of whats influencing entries and slowing killing the heart of the contest.

I'm not a fan of Madonna but I get the comparison. I think Svetlana actually has a really good voice though and a quite a fiery spark inside of her. She really is great. Her music videos are fantastic too.

Yes lets burn all media (apart from ESCUNITED). I'm sick of the media literally ruling over everything.

I found their ratings on Mirror site, I'm in disbelief with their taste. I know tastes differ, but really, even to that there is some limit! Belarus 6, Estonia 4, Finland 8, Israel 4, Latvia 5 I don't get it xfacepalm Then they are surprised why UK is not doing well if you choose songs with similiar key for ESC.
Thank God, readers have common sense...

You and me are really creating a strong ally in here lately... I like it! xyes

Well, you know how I feel already so I think I said what could be said about my fears of the direction of ESC... and that's why I want to get rid of the juries tbh.

As for Madonna, she's been my fav artist since I was like 4 years old  ... I think her past two releases have been pretty bad though, but she is one of a kind in the world of pop and seeing her live once I could feel that starquality... I sense a similarity in Svetlana - her feel for pop, shows, image etc. ... oh yes her videos are really good!

Media sucks... I don't even consider ESCUNITED a "media", it's a fan/music forum more or less...

I consider her performance one of the best, beautiful lyrics (if you are able to understand) and an amazing show, nothing to bore... As I know the English part was ok, but it just can't nail the original version of it. I do know romanian, and I am pleased the choose the one in their native language. My top 3 xlove

I think this actually had an outsider chance to win if it was in the 2nd half, but as it's on the 1st half I suppose that isn't going to happen. Still hope for a top 5 for dear Aliona!

Can this win?

Haha did you see the qualifiers in semi 2? No chance it can win...

I do hope for a top. 10 though, Moldova truly deserves it...

I'd love for it to win though, but it won't...

Well, it won't win...

EBU won't let them anyways because they'd struggle financially to host it, and they want their western win...

It's going to perform 3rd... the place where Rona Nishliu came 5th from, so hopefully 3rd is the new 17th? haha
