I am not avoiding to reply to your post. I am just thinking. I don't want to disappoint you or anyone else with my thoughts.

Don't worry, this is not about disappointment :p we're all exchanging points of view here, sometimes we share the same ones, sometimes we don't :D
Feel free to take your time if you want to reply, there is no hurry ;) and there is no bad thought (excepted criticizing Sweden maybe )

I don't know what happened during last week (besides me starting my vacation) but I don't hate this song anymore...at all. I kinda like it and it almost got to my top10 this week. The way I update my list makes it almost impossible to do such a leap in one week so next week this just might challenge for a top10 spot. This makes me wonder - since at least for me it took couple of weeks to start liking this song - can it work when the majority of voters only hear it once?

I actually think so, I'm sure it will work (don't know for the win but for a good result), 'because this is the first italian entry in five years who can really reach the listeners with only one listen (and yes, there are exceptions like you, as always happens!). And I say this because I saw them performing live on Sanremo and their performance has been like a storm.

These guys have a huge chance to win. Their music markets mustbe saturated with hot male vocal groups, especially operatic! The juries will put this at the top of theirs list. It's 12th on my list but I'm sure it'll climb into my top 10. 6 points.

^ that's the point though. It's up against many other entries who simply do not have the gravitas that opera singers/songs have.

Actually, they were the least voted from the jury in the 3-final at Sanremo, so it's not granted that juries will love it.

Meh. We know WHY jury didn't vote for them... everybody (I refer to their colleagues and critics) before, during and after Sanremo looked at them haughtily and snobbish. The jury predicatbly voted for Malika and Nek, the two that could beat Il Volo.

There's a big difference between a prejudicial jury like that in Sanremo (and who is writing wanted the victory of Nek) and many juries around Europe who can simply appreciate this good song and their masterful way of singing.

Well who was it who recently said this past week that Il Volo should not be representing Italy at ESC because the song is too old fashioned and it doesn't reflect current Italian music, it was some lady :? Clearly some still think the same way about them as they did before Sanremo and that won't change even if they win ESC xshrug

A majority of the songs that go to ESC are old fashioned and don't reflect the music that is current in their country anyway

Irene Grandi, a famous singer here in Italy with many hits on her career. She was competing in Sanremo 2015 with Il Volo and I think that also her song is old fashioned and doesn't reflect current italian music (although I like it) so... I don't know what to say about her statements

Krishoes I also love Irene's song but to me it doesn't sound old-fashioned like "Grande Amore" does. xshrug Even though I like the latter too, I keep on thinking it was one of the less "honest" canzoni of the festival, don't know how to describe it. Maybe because I feel it screams Eurovision too much and it doesn't fit the more down-to-earth format of San Remo. Just my opinion.

By the way, you shouldn't blame San Remo juries: they might have preferred other songs over Il Volo's but they didn't screw them either. Proof is they won :D I don't know about Eurovision juries though, I'd be surprised if they massively fell for it tbh.

That's for sure. Grande amore sounds like a song coming out from 50's or 60's... Irene's song maybe from 90's-early 00's and for this reason I say that it's old-fashioned too...

Grande amore was written specifically for Sanremo, although it was Sanremo of 12 years ago  Eurovision NEVER entered the minds of anyone involved with the song until it actually won and they were invited to participate xshrug

Il Volo didn't enter Sanremo to try and get to ESC, they entered because they wanted to get more known in their home country and Grande amore fits their style so its no surprise they accepted the song when it was offered to them. Before Sanremo they were more famous in other parts of the world and less so in their own.

And I don't think the song sounds Eurovision at all. It sounds like music that appeals to those who like Andrea Bocelli or Josh Groban which is not ESC friendly at all. But mostly it matches the stereotype foreigners have of old Italian music.

I will always blame Sanremo juries until they will consist of people who have nothing to do with music or salaried by Rai, chosen among friends of the presenters or the singers.
