Marco failed? A 7th place after the big favourites and Russia is like a victory for a song like L'essenziale, don't be silly, think to your entry please.

Thats tha point :) they are nonames...no popularity at all.. but they are in favorites :)

Italy will suffer!Because they dont compete in semi finals, and their song .... is not for everyone... genre of the song.. Say hello to 2011:fr:

Well technically they did have some success in Europe with their debut and some minor since. They have also done performances on big shows but their not big or anything.

They seem to concentrate on Latin America and the U.S. which makes sense since the audience for pop-opera is bigger

Most of these artists are usually "no names" beyond the scope of their country or region. Even then, there'll be indie/up and coming artists participating. If having a big name and popularity were the only things that mattered to qualify, why didn't Dana International qualify in 2011?

When Italy came back in 2011, similar things were being said about 'Madness of Love' and it finished runner-up; Nina Zilli and Marco Mengoni both managed to finish in the Top 10. Then last year, a pop rock song is sent and it finishes 21st, the worst result for Italy so far.

France 2011 faltered because he was vocally weak. It doesn't matter what genre your song is if you're singing off-key.

Another reason for France's failure that I never thought of, until it was brought up recently, is that they had to compete against Italy for the "high brow," "class" vote. They had to perform back to back and while Italy had the hype of the comeback one can't ignore the fact that Raphael blew Amuary out of the water performance wise as well. Italy took a majority of the jury votes and probably also had a hand in hurting France in the televote as well along with the bad vocals.

Raphael was to Amuary in 2011 what Ani Lorak was to Charlotte Perrelli in 2008. I don't think there is a Raphael/Ani for Il Volo to worry about this year xshrug

They were more or else the same in the televote. Italy just did better, because it got 12 points from the 100% jury votes of Albania and San marino, which were counted as televotes in the split result. We don't now the exact split televote results and how much each country gave another country, but judging by the points that they received, I'd say that France was more successful in getting scraps from several countries, while Italy(like usually) got high points from the countries that are around them.

I'm thinking maybe Czech Republic or Armenia may half take that role if they qualify?....

Lol, true. I'm not saying they can overpower Italy taking them over in the scoreboard, of course not. I just meant they can steal some precious Italy votes thus preventing Il Volo from winning. It is a bit far fetched, I know, but it could just happen if they deliver, as I believe at least one of them will :p

One of the problems with the jury is it's based around reputation and hype and not much else. Pretty pointless, and it adds jury bribery scandals too.
