Yes, I know it was hosted by Italy. But as you said, in Italian it's said "Inghilterra". So, it's curious that they didn't use neither "Inghilterra" (in the language of the host country) nor "England" (in English) and used "Inglaterra".

At first I also thought that "Yes, they say England because in football the countries of the UK are divided into different teams", but then I read better and I understood he was referring to the fact of saying "Inglaterra" and not "England".

Well, throughout the years, they've been introduced and had their country on the scoreboard listed as England, Great Britain, and the UK; juries would interchange those thinking they all meant the same thing. The same applies for Holland/The Netherlands.
