Well, this "one friend" is usually a person who listens to what the general public listens to. You need to admit that the general public thinks very differently from the ESC bubble. No one predicted Moldova's 3rd place last year, yet most of my non-fan friends said it's the best song of the year, and it indeed ended up in top 3.

I see alot of people are now downgrading this based on the performance on "Israel Calling", well it proves what pedestal people put this on and what expectations people have on this compared to other contestants and I think if you look at it objectively, performances on these pre-shows are rarely very good nor are they giving much indications on how it will look like on the ESC stage in May and on the TV-screens watched by millions for the first time. These pre-shows are mostly fan treats and most people outside the ESC bubble barely know of these shows' existence. Sure, we get some idea of live vocals etc, but not about the overall package that will be brought in May since these performances are kind of stripped back. I don't think she was much worse than others, plus her song is way more difficult to deliver live which should be taken into account. Sure it wasn't a stunning performance, but I wouldn't worry too much based on this alone.

I think Toy is the type of song that is huge among the ESC bubble but is not anything too special for most people. My friend gave it a listen because of the hype and was surprised because it sounded like nothing special, even described it as "random catchy pop song".

It is really sad and awful, but we can't to change the fact that there are lot of people like that. But I think Netta is beautiful and great, and she is more loved than hated, so she will make great success.

Yeah, it is true, they think of it in that way. But still, people either adore it or hate it to the bits. Half love, half hate.

So i am probably unique (not ofc) being indifferent to this dont love it, dont hate, its about 18th-ish in my rank, i find it ok and trashy but catchy, for me its joke entry level Verka Serduchka. If Israel wins, i would be totally ok because its great to have ESC there next year (and it still better choice than crap from Estonia or Belgium)

It is the second time Im saying this but everything is not always black or white. There are enough people who even get attracted to ppl who are overweight only. Yes probably the majority of people would prefer fit to normal however it is all still very subjective. Obesity is definitely unhealthy and bad, thats for sure. You are looking at it almost from a scientific point of view though. Yes you did point out that some people also fall for things like charm, still you fail to accept that not everyone likes or is attracted to what the general public would consider 'perfect' or 'beautiful'. Bauty really really really is in the eye of the beholder.

You are right by bringing up the complex psychological reasons that can lead to ignoring the underlying biological impetus. There are the weirdest kinds of fetishes, for example. I''m aware of that. Yet I would say that these psychological components exist on top of a biological foundation that is determined by our genes and therefore intrinsic to our species. We can witness an analogous approach in nature among other species that ebit mating rituals meant to test the genes of a potential mating partner. All the layers of culture and psychology that humans might have added on top of this cannot undo our biological foundation.

It's time to say a few things about the song. At first I found it stupid. The lyrics are definitely silly and the chicken sound just makes me laugh. Like every time! On the other hand, the music is so good and so Israeli. From the first moment I heard the chorus (talking about the music of the chorus) I said "yup, that's Israel". And today, I find myself loving this! There's absolutely no way I want this to win.

Same with me, as [MENTION=4606]alca[/MENTION] said, I find myself listening to this song on repeat yesterday, and thinking how good it is, I like that Israeli's sound, and I hated this song at first, refusing to get under all that hype. I don't like the chicken part so much, but it is funny, and the whole package is so crazy and unique, it would be reasonable winner, even if it is not my personal favourite. Also Netta is very charismatic and great performer, with great voice, it makes me to like this song more.

At first, I didn´t like the song. But in the meanwhile, it´s in my TOP 10. I think, this is for sure a possible winner. 12 points.

high potential winning the final. but if the performance gets too funny, the juries will not put her on number 1 i guess. wearing a silly dress like in amsterdam would not be a good idea. so i think there is a very high chance to win the televote but with the juries maybe there will be something like belgium, czech republic or france be the winner. but i think this year (like last year) will change a lot when the rehearsals start.

I guess what we all can't deny is that the song has individuality. But that doesn't mean I like it. On the contrary, not a bit actually. To me the song is too artificial and it doesn't touch a string inside me. :?
