...I am going to choose to recall that she was excellent in the rehearsal and conveniently ignore that mess of a performance on the night :p

I'm still very concerned about this.

the live wasn't very good but what makes it less concerning is that it fell short in things that are absolutely not a built-in problem. the verses sounded meandering and low energy, which clearly does not reflect netta as a performer. one good performance and this one will be entirely erased from y'all's goldfish memories.

people declaring the death of a top contender is always hilarious, though. may you all never stop. remember blanche?

I'm still very concerned about this.

Delegations have now had a very long time to challenge the song on these grounds, and no one has (to my knowledge). Unless it wins and the Russian delegation wants to make a stink like they enjoy doing, I'm unconcerned.

A performance like that has no hope of getting top 5 with the juries. And as Sergey showed in 2016, if you don't do well with the juries theb you have no hope even if you end up first with the public. There will always be a song which ends up top 3 with both.

And this song definitely is :bg: now in my opinion... It feels like the compromise between high jury and high televoting appeal yet it also just is a damn good, solid product!

Only deaf haters can't admit how great she was and how she rocked the stage in every possible way there is.

I just watched the performance and agree with those who say that it was bad or at least worse than expected. It lacked the energy that's needed for this song and felt way more out of place than I thought it would feel. Don't really think it's a song for the "big stage", if she performs it like this at ESC

I guess a lot of people had really unrealistic expectations, of course she's not gonna give 100% on this stage.

Why "of course"? No matter the venue, artists should always give their best. Not talking about staging here (it's a given that it will be much more fancy in Lisbon) but about connecting with the people (who mainly came to see her) and "feeling" the song.

I listened to the wiwiblog recording of Netta's performance at Israel Calling. Pretty amazing. I love her sense of rhythm and how she sets the beat razor-sharp. I wouldn't be surprised if she's a hell of a drummer as well. She proved one important thing with being able to perform her song with excellence at very simple circumstances, she's a true performer. The staging was laid back and I think she simply moved around in the moment. She didn't even use the lights. People expecting studio quality from a live audiance recording are ignorant delusionals. She performed with confidence, ease and humour as she seem to have as signum.

Totally agree...Israel is going to alienate too many jury types and middle of the road televoters......Bulgaria looks set to mop up and become a firm 2nd favourite once rehearsals begin.

Possibly, but I think visual presentation is going to be a big hurdle for them. Their vocals have seemed good so far, but it's going to be a big challenge to make their "common framework" of five singers look cohesive on stage.

This has nothing to do with all of the posts above, but it seems that :fr: is heading towards a smashing victory in Lisbon. I can't see Netta winning. On the one hand, her vocals are terribly weak and on the other hand, the more I listen to this entry, the more it seems like "Toy" is coming across blander and blander.

This being said, it'd be so disappointing and annoying to see it reaching the top 3. There are plenty of songs, which are a million miles ahead of this trainwreck. As of me (and others?), a wretched and weak performance doesn't stand any chance to win.

I was actually quite relieved after watching Netta's live performance. I was really wondering how this would be peformed live. I admit this had lots less energy than her recorded version. BUT, she did nail both the chicken sounds and the high notes. "Toy" alone on the stage - a hard thing to do! With backing vocals, much better sound - I am still sure this will sound great in Lisboa.

Agree. After listening to France's Performance last night, I was astonished. I even wasn't a huge fan of the song until now. Good Performance, good vocals, can see it winning. But not Netta.

What the hell are people complaining about  This was good. And It's not the Eurovision performance. It will be amazing.

Still freaking love this. xheat

The fact that this is hard song to sing live is not really an excuse of being off tune 3-4 times in one song. She needed a lot of help from backing vocals to carry her. Lets see if she can improve her performance ... as of now, forget the stage performance she has a lot work to do with her vocals alone.

The same goes for some singers: if you aren't able to sound at least decent, while you're performing live, then you shouldn't have become a singer. xcookie
