occidentali's karma was 100% fine on stage and this is revisionism created to the justify the biggest star crossing of humankind. nobody can reasonably explain why gabbani wasn't top 3 and that's okay. some things in life are meant to be a mystery. (y'all can't change my mind so don't try)
also we have no idea what juries will do with this because they don't necessary hate humour or hey mamma wouldn't be 8th with juries. it all comes down to presentation and performance, and israel knows how to play the jury game well.
Not trying to change your mind, but I think the reasons for Gabbani's failure were rather clear. It was a song that worked well within the Eurovision fanbase but didn't translate well to the mainstream audience. The fact that it was in Italian was sadly one of it's main downfalls. People who took the time to look into the lyrics would have realised that is was a parady song but for your average Eurovison viewer it was just a silly 'classic Eurovision' song with a gimmicky dancing gorilla and dance moves. I adored 'Occidentali's Karma' but no one who I showed the song to felt the same way, save for my Italian friends and people who I explained the lyrics to.
I have a feeling Israel will suffer the same fate this year. It helps that the song is in English but again, I think your average viewer will view this as 'Eurotrash' with silly chicken noise gimmicks. It can be hard to make out the lyrics at some points in the studio version so Netta will have to work on her pronunciation before May to stop the message being lost. Last years results showed that the Eurovison televote was moving further away from silly songs and closer to more serious and 'sophisticated' sounds. Now I don't at all think that 'Occidentali's Karma' or 'Toy' are unsophisticated, far from it. But I believe that is how the televote viewed Francessco last year and I fear Netta will suffer a similar fate.
