Re: HUNGARY 2018

I give 5 Points because 3 is a bit too subjective and this Songs has Somehow originality. Also just noticed that I gave Ukraine 4 and Hungary is def. better.

Ok, After 2 Days, I decided to give 12 Points.

weirdly enough these screams didn't put me off on my first impression of this song... the icebergs of my taste must be really drifting oddly through the years

It's not a music genre I'm drawn towards in general. But that doesn't mean I can't root for Hungary if the song is well-crafted and the performance is great. :) I haven't listened to it yet actually.

Now that you talk about it, I really don't know if we have heavy metal bands singing in French :p It must exist.

This is hard rock, of which I have never been a fan, and I don't like this entry.
But there is something in the air saying that they might be the next

Winner,......... kind of the same thing Lordi did

Someone may have mentioned it and I missed it, but does someone know who it is in the clips in the music video is? Is it someone in the bands brother or some former band member or something?

From memory, the video is about the main singer mourning the death of his father, and sort of saying that it's the end of his childhood - so perhaps they're older home videos of the main singer from when he was younger?

I think those childhood pictures and videos belong to all of the bandmembers :)

By the way, I think the translation of the lyrics has not been posted here yet, so let me try:

AWS - Goodbye Summer

Let's play with cards open at last:
My ship has to go
And it will leave you behind
My blood will live on in you
And if you don't sell it, the mark is on your heart,
It will lift you up to the sky

Goodbye summer, now you're late
You have lied that you will be mine
But you never came
Goodbye dreams, thanks for fading away
Now it's time for me to get back
What you took from me

Life in my veins got weary
I know you want to hold me still
But let me go, I beg you
Here, rip off of me what is yours
And if you don't sell it, the mark's on your heart
It will lift you up to the sky

(Goodbye summer...)

The background story is that the lead singer, Örs has lost his father last year (he was an acknowledged historian) and the lyrics read as his father's last words to him.
So in its topic it's like Germany's entry.

Just imagine Malta's entry actually being "Song for Dad" for this one moment. A song glorifying the presence of father, and even being sung by a duo of father and son. What would go through Michael's and Örs's minds when they'd have been subjected to that?

Sounds better than Lordi, never got the appeal of that (they wore monster masks I suppose). This one is quite anthemic. This kind of style will need some visual gimmick to appeal more widely I'd guess. I'm surprised it qualified considering the style, if it was a phone vote maybe their fans got organised. If offers variety and I'd say it's one of the better ones so far.

Hopefully not a lot, but imagine Song for Dad hipothetically coming straight after or before one of them in the running order. Helluva contrast.

As for the song itself I've got mixed feelings. I mean I like this kind of music a lot so I gotta appreciate a metal/rock entry when I hear one, but them vocals seem to be forced at times (? I think about verses here). But on the other hand, choruses are great and Ors' delivery is so sincere I can feel the emotions coming. :5: points for now, but may be more. Although I'm not sure if Hungary is going to the final this year.

Omg indeed. Imagine a partly cloudy sky and a sunny day and suddenly it's hurricanes and tsunamis and suddenly it's clean and pretty again.
