This is ok.. a bit too polished for a little folky number like this. I prefer much more of a raw production. It's quite charming and totally listenable however. I like how it doesn't feel the need to explode at the end. Keeps it's mood through out. One of the better songs this year I think. 7 points for now from me.

In hindsight I must add that Ildikó Keresztes - Nem akarok többé játszani was actually the best entry in this selection !!

Folky? Singer-songwriter music is hardly folk music, especially not in Hungary.

A lot of singer-songwriter stuff comes under folk as well. Not ethnic folk of course. More a Nick Drake, Keaton Henson, Joni Mitchell kind of folk.

I will always find the Anglo-Saxic definition of "folk" a bit odd... I know what you mean, but I think that's one of the most misleading names of a musical genre I know about.

This is what I got from wikipedia..

Folk music includes both traditional music and the genre that evolved from it during the 20th century folk revival. The term originated in the 19th century but is often applied to music that is older than that. Some types of folk music are also called world music.

But then this follows on from it...

Starting in the mid-20th century a new form of popular folk music evolved from traditional folk music. This process and period is called the (second) folk revival and reached a zenith in the 1960s. This form of music is sometimes called contemporary folk music or folk revival music to distinguish it from earlier folk forms.

So I suppose maybe this could be called contemporary folk? Even then this doesn't sound like the folk of the 60's/70's that I listen to a lot. It does sound like a lot of the "Folk" I hear today though.

Thing is, it doesn't even sound folk at all... it's just mostly guitar based singer-songwriter type of music.

Compare that to "contemporary folk" that you get in for instance in ESC and Eastern/South - Southeastern Europe where the "folk" is apparent in the music.

I suppose they are just a lot more exotic than over here:lol: Folk is probably the most wide genre in the world as literally every country has a different sound. There are probably a million sub genres to folk which better paint a picture of the music you are hearing. I know nothing about Hungarian folk though. This does indeed sound like a lot of the stuff other Singer-Songwriters are putting out today. Singer-Songwriter isn't a genre though as far as i'm aware. I've only listened to this song a couple of times so I shan't further comment on the song until I inspect it further. I don't want to sound like an idiot  Talking about a song that to be honest I can't even remember what it sounds like whilst listening to my newly bought Kaliopi albumxmusic

Well, the closest thing we got to Hungarian folk in ESC is NOX... and this sounds nothing like it

I know "Singer-songwriter" is not really a genre... but it's often used to describe this type of music though.

I'm just listening to this song for the first time and I must say, that I quite like it. Just Kedvesem somehow sounds funny, in my language anyway. :D
